Hello everyone – Tracy here with a template challenge for you. I love the challenges this month – they have encouraged me to think about all the positive events, turning points, and people in my life. But sometimes, “luck” feels passive to me – as if all the good things around you are simply due to chance. So, for this challenge, I want you to think about a time when you made your own luck – when you made a difficult decision that turned out to be a wonderful one and led you to a good time or place in your life.

To help you with this challenge, I’ve created the template below that you can download HERE. Feel free to move things around and add your own flair! I’d love to see some hybrid layouts or projects based on this template, too!

Here’s my layout:

and here’s the template:

And here’s a layout by Jacinda:

And here’s the fine print for the challenge:

Create your page based on the above rules (use the template in some form or fashion, and focus on the journaling).

You can use any designs you like — you don’t have to use something from the Digichick to qualify. We want you to scrap with us! And we want you to be making layouts that make you happy more than anything else. So, if you have something from another shop that you’d like to use, feel free!

When you’ve finished your layout, upload it to your favorite gallery, come back to this thread and leave a comment with a link to your layout. (Feel free to use our open gallery here at the Digichick if you need a place to upload your layout.)

The deadline for the challenge is Monday March 22, 2010 at 11:59 EST. To receive your participation prize, make sure you come back and post your links before the deadline!

And what about that prize? Today’s sponsor is Heather of Design by Heather T.

Hi! I’m Heather T. I never sleep. I live in my computer when I’m not outdoors. I have a husband, two cats, a puppy, and a son, in increasing order of chaos. We live very happily out on the Oregon Coast with the sound of the sea in our dreams every night. Considering I grew up in Switzerland, I’m amazed I’ve fallen in love with the ocean so much! But I do miss my mountains…

Everyone who participates in the challenge will get a 30% off coupon to Heather’s store, and two participants will each get a $7 coupon to her store.

I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Hey everyone – LuAnn here with my first time hosting an Out of the Egg challenge.

The goal of our Out of the Egg challenges is to really push you out of your comfort zone. And today’s challenge is no exception.

Those of you familiar with The Digichick challenges are familiar with our Paper to Digi challenges where participants pick a traditional paper layout and use it as inspiration to create their own digital layouts. Today we’re going to be doing a Digi to Paper challenge. But simply picking a digital layout and then creating a paper layout just wouldn’t be in the spirit of an Out of the Egg Challenge – plus we need to work in this month’s theme “So Lucky”…

Here’s the challenge:

Create a layout that you will need to print out (you can scraplift, use a template, or just create a layout – I made mine 8×8 so I could print at home) – note: your finished layout cannot be a flat completed layout – see below.

Here’s the twist to take you out of your comfort zone:

You must include atleast 7 layers to your printed layout (for example: print your photo, print your background papers, print some elements, print the ribbons from the kit, print your paper strips, etc.). You can have flattened digital elements on your page but you must include 7 additional adhered-to-your-layout items (can be traditional like bows/brads/etc. or printed digital elements added to the layout)

One of those 7 layers must be a printed out journaling space of some type (journal block, notebook paper, envelope, etc.)

You must hand write a letter to someone about how lucky you are to know them/have them in your life – this could be your spouse, your child, a friend, your pet, etc. This will be the journaling for your layout. No cheating and using a font of your own handwriting.

Here’s my layout – my letter is written to my birth Mom who is part of my life:

and a few close ups of my layers:

my 7 layers include: 4 different background papers, silhouette and journal paper, and 2 purple flowers – one on silhouette and one in lower corner.

Here’s one by Tracy (SunshineTK) – she lifted this layout by Holly:

Tracy’s 7 hybrid elements are:

1. doodles around the block (it was so nice to use my souffle pens again!)
2. ribbon
3. staples
4. journaling block edged w/fluid chalk
5. flowers
6. brads
7. chipboard title

The fine print:

Create your page based on the above rules.

You can use any designs you like — you don’t have to use something from the Digichick to qualify. We want you to scrap with us! And we want you to be making layouts that make you happy more than anything else. So, if you have something from another shop that you’d like to use, feel free!

When you’ve finished your layout, photograph your layout, come back to this thread and leave a comment with a link to the photo of your layout. (Feel free to use our open gallery here at the Digichick if you need a place to upload your layout.) Your photo needs to be at an angle so that we can see the layers that you added.

The deadline for the challenge is Friday March 19, 2010 at 11:59 EST. To receive your participation prize, make sure you come back and post your links before the deadline!

I can’t wait to see what you all come up with!

Today’s challenge is sponsored by Donna Wells, of Quirky Twerp, who has generously offered her beautiful and sophisticated Fabrications Classic kit to all challenge participants.

Here’s a bit more about Quirky Twerp (Donna):
Donna Wells is the twerp behind Quirky Twerp. She is a graphic designer and has worked directly with the scrapbooking industry for nine years, creating products for a number of top companies. Just last year she decided it would be fun to create products of her own, so that’s when Quirky Twerp was born. Donna has a couple of different styles but thinks that works out just fine with a company name like Quirky Twerp. You never know what to expect! Because of her experience as a graphic designer you can be guaranteed that her products are of the highest quality and will undoubtedly print beautifully for you.

Going along with our theme of “So Lucky” for March my challenge for you is to create a layout to document your family’s lucky charms and superstitions. Does your son have a pair of lucky socks that can’t be washed? Do you have a lucky charm or outfit you wear? Does your family have superstitions that you have passed down from generation to generation? What things does your family do for good luck? Anything about being lucky or family superstitions will do -Tell us about it!

The goal of this layout is to really focus on the story and your journaling. Stretch the story out, tell us in words rather than in pictures. Adding a few pictures to the page is fine and helps pull the story along – but challenge yourself to journal on at least half of the page.

Here’s my layout about our family’s superstitions:

Hey, it’s Olivia bringing you your template challenge!

Now onto the challenge…

For the month of March we have the theme luck. Most of the time when I think of luck leprechauns and there being gold at the end of the rainbow come to my mind. So my challenge for you is to make a layout on what you or someone you know think of when you/they think about luck. Is there some crazy memory you have from your childhood? Did you ever carry around a rabbit foot? We aren’t too picky here, so whatever you think the prompt means go with it!

To help you get started, I have a template for you.

Download template HERE.

Here’s an example from one of our CT members, hollyinjapan!

Rules:
Journal about what you think of when you think of luck.
You don’t have to use the template. If something different inspires you, it’s okay.
You are not required to use The Digichick products.
Please come back by March 8, 2010 Midnight EST with your layout.
Please leave a comment with a link to your layout so we can leave you some love. You are welcome to use our gallery to host your image.

Today’s challenge is sponsored by Cheryl from Fiddle-Dee-Dee Designs. She has generously offered a 30% off coupon for all participants plus one $10 RAK for a lucky participant. Here is more from Cheryl:

Hello! I’m Cheryl Ashcraft (aka gonewiththewind) and I design under the name Fiddle-Dee-Dee Designs. I chose the name because I’m a HUGE fan of Gone With The Wind and my favorite character, Scarlett O’Hara, says “fiddle-dee-dee!” when she’s pushing away worries to think about another time. So all those “Fuss Free” templates are designed to help you get around any worry that you might have about making layered pages.

My favorite TV show right now is “LOST.” Whatever will happen? I also love to read and usually end up reading a book a week. I love antiques and decorating my home. My mom has an antiques booth, so she’s my enabler. Oh, and I love chocolate. Just sayin’.

30% off coupon: save-fdd-30off, one use per customer (exp. 4/1/10)

One $10 coupon

We’ve spent the whole month scrapping our hearts out all about the loves in our lives – what we love, who we love, where we love. For the final challenge this month let’s scrap about how we are loved.

My page is about a precious little kitty I used to have that showed me in so many ways that she loved me over the years. But even more than that, how much my daughter loves me by giving me a gift that has eternally touched my heart.

Here are the details of the challenge to spice things up.

Use at least one ornate frame on your page

at least two ribbons

three patterned papers

tell the story of how you know you are loved. This could be the story about a gift received, a letter, an act of kindness, etc.

and most importantly the title of your page is to be, “I am loved.”

You can read my journaling here.

In need of some more inspiration? Check out these wonderful pages.

The fine print:

- Create your I am Loved page based on the above five steps.

- You can use any designs you like — you don’t have to use something from the Digichick to qualify. We want you to scrap with us! And we want you to be making layouts that make you happy more than anything else. So, if you have something from another shop that you’d like to use, feel free!

- When you’ve finished your layout, come back to this thread and leave a comment with a link to your layout. (Feel free to use our open gallery here at the Digichick if you need a place to upload your layout.)

- The deadline for the challenge is Friday March 5, 2010 at 11:59 EST. To qualify for the grand prize, be sure to come and post your links before then!

I’m excited to see your pages too.

I absolutely love to create and I am always busy with some or other project!

Happy Monday morning scrappers!

Today’s challenge follows our theme this month of Love. We are going to journal about things, places, experiences, sensations that we love.

Normally, when I do a things-I-love list, I end up listing my husband, my kids, my parents, my sisters. But those are the obvious things that I love. I know this list already, it’s a given! 20 years from now, the list will be pretty much the same. So I started to dig a little deeper to identify things in life that I really enjoy now. That I might not remember 20 years from now. Smells, sights, sensations, sounds. And instead of a top 10 list, I decided to go to 100. Now, you don’t have to do 100, but try to challenge yourself to dig deep and discover parts of yourself you haven’t considered for a while. What you find may make you smile!

Here’s my page for this challenge – I must admit, this one took me longer than my typical page. But I enjoyed the whole discovery process!

Frame Clusters on the Edge

Here’s another example by Tracy (SunshineTK):

And another example by Christine (ccouch):

The Rules…

1. Create your challenge LO based on the above steps (journal about things you love and try to dig past the obvious list).

2. You can use any designs you like — you don’t have to use something from the Digichick to qualify. We want you to scrap with us! And we want you to be making layouts that make you happy more than anything else. So, if you have something from another shop that you’d like to use, feel free!

3. When you’ve finished your layout, come back to this thread and leave a comment with a link to your layout. (Feel free to use our open gallery here at the Digichick if you need a place to upload your layout. We even have a spot just for challenge entries!)

4. The deadline for the challenge is Monday March 1, 2010 at 11:59 EST. To qualify for your prize(s), be sure to come and post your links before then!

Prize info:
Prize sponsor: 4 Shades of Blue Designs

So that’s it. Go scrap and have some fun!

Denise here to bring you today’s challenge…a scraplift. But not just any scraplift.

Instead of me pointing you to a gallery and asking you to lift someone specific, I want you to look into your own favorties…and pick a scrapper that you really admire…some whose layouts both inspire you and challenge you.

As I turned to my favorites, I found that it was filled with layouts from Sasha (mom2peanuts)…and boy is she inspiring! I could actually add her entire gallery to my favorites, she is THAT good!

What do I love about her layouts?

Let me show you a couple:

She has such an artistic eye…using the elements to really create the feeling of her layout. Amazing shadows and color just add to the visual interst and real impact of her layouts.

And…what do I love the most? She never forgets to tell the story with WORDS, as well as pictures…and manages to turn her journaling into another wonderful page element.

So, the second layout is the one I choose to lift. And here’s my pale imitation:

Credits: Citron & Champagne by Girl Friday Studio.

So your challenge is to find a scrapper you really admire…maybe even someone whose style differs from your own and lift them. Make sure you work on your shadows and include some journaling. Work on making the journaling an interesting element of your page.

The Rules…

- Create your challenge LO based on the layout of a scrapper you really admire.

- You can use any designs you like — you don’t have to use something from the Digichick to qualify. We just want you to scrap with us! And we want you to be making layouts that make you happy more than anything else.

- When you’ve finished your layout, come back to this thread and leave a comment with a link to your layout. (Feel free to use the open gallery here at the Digichick if you need a place to upload your layout.)

- The deadline for the challenge is Friday February 26, 2010 at 11:59 EST. To qualify for your prize(s), be sure to come and post your link before then!

Happy scrapping!

This challenge is sponsored by one of The DigiChick’s new designers, Jennifer Fox! All participants of this challenge will receive a 30% off coupon to Jennifer’s store, and 2 lucky participants will receive an RAK for $5 to Jennifer’s store! Thanks, Jennifer, and welcome to TDC!

Here’s a little more about Jennifer:

Hi! I am Jennifer Fox and I design under the oh-so-original name of Jennifer Fox Designs. I have been designing for not quite a year and am thrilled to be joining the Digichick!!! Yesterday was my Grand Opening and I’m just beyond excited! I am a former elementary school teacher turned SAHM. I have two (mostly) darling children who are 6 and 4 years old. I’ve been married for almost 9 years and to my college sweetheart. We live in North Carolina with our dog, Callie, and our brand new puppy, Max.

I have an obsession with reading and usually have several books going at once. I adore yoga and hate running. I’m a Target junkie and could easily get lost for days in there. I think York Peppermint Patties are really the best food ever and I see no reason not to eat them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner–especially when they’re teamed with a great cup of coffee. I scrap compulsively and take more photos of my poor children than I will ever admit. I constantly lose things and I’m horrible with names—but I’m kind, caring, and sort of patient and I think that makes up for a lot.

Hi Digichick Fans!

I have a fun template challenge for you today. The Challenge is to list 5 of your favorites or loves from the past.

Today’s challenge sponsor is Elise’s Pieces Designs. Each participants will receive a 40% off Coupon (valid until March 11, 2010) to her store. PLUS Three lucky participants will receive a $5.00 RAK.

Hi! I’m Elise and I’m a designer here at The Digichick! I’m also the wife of a funny guy who slightly resembles Robert Downey, Jr (hey, I said slightly!) and the mom of three wild boys. We live in the “cowboy West” where we enjoy outdoor adventures and just hanging out as a family. I love making scrapbooks for my sons and hope that they’ll someday marry girls who will appreciate all of my hard work! I also love designing, making paper crafty projects, cooking, and reading. I’m a little bit addicted to Vera Bradley bags and anything containing peanut butter and chocolate. Come visit me at ElisesPieces.com and be sure sign up for my newsletter for a sweet *free* monthly treat!

And now on to the challenge:

Ok, we all know we LOVE our families, camera’s, latte’s and so on, but what about the favorites as a child. You can use images from the internet, dig up and scan those you have in an old box, or use none at all and all journaling. So tell us your LOVES.

Here is a free template I created to help you get started that you can download HERE:

**NOTE: I upload a new version of the template to correct the group folder problem for PSE.

And here is my layout!

I used Creased by Simply Scraps Designs, Wonky stitching by Traci Murphy, Always and Forever Word Art by Kellie Mize, and Ready for Spring collab by Elise’s Pieces Designs and Jude.

Download the template and make a layout with it. You can do anything you want with this template, flip it, rotate it, add all kinds of elements to it, replace photos with more paper, or keep it simple. You don’t have to use this template to qualify for the challenge. You can create anything you wish.

Here are the challenge rules:
