I wonder if anyone that's been scrapbooking (paper or digital) for a number of years has layouts several years old that they look back at and don't cringe?

I don't know if it's the nature of trends or or just that as we improve we see the flaws in our earlier things. I guess it's both.

I guess I'm just thinking that we (namely *I* :embaresse ) should cut ourselves some slack because maybe it's just naturally going to happen. I'm hoping that some layout styles, like the simpler, graphic ones will stand the test of time well though. I want to enjoy my pages in years to come, not cringe and pick them apart.

What do y'all think?

I haven't been scrapping for years, but I have been doing other design things. I look back at my early stuff and compared to what I do now, there's a definite cringe factor on some of them. Some I do still quite like, and they do tend to be the more simply ones. But either way, I always keep in mind how little I knew then and how much graphic design has evolved. Particularly in digiscrapping, there has been a huge improvement in quality and availability just in the six months I've been doing it!

I've been scrapping for about 8 years. But only about a year and a half have I NOT been completely CM. UGH, I look at my older albums (which were so cute at the time) and wonder why it took me so long to 'see the light'. LOL Nothing against CM... there are just so many other great companies out there now!

my digital style is not really "too" different - i've been a graphic artist since i changed my major in college in 1993, but my knowledge of what i can do with things has improved.

my paper style - TOTALLY changed. All because of trends. I used to have to have my letters all cut out, not we have sticker letters or stamps. I used to have to make paper doll stuff (ehhh, what was I thinking?). LOL. I also had to cut up all my pictures, wish I didn't do that with deco edge sissors.

oh well!

That's something I totally LOVE about digital scrapping, you don't have to risk *mistakes* with cutting up or cropping pictures. I was always scared to death to make that cut on my pictures. Now I can try what I want and if I don't like it, no permanent damage!

With my paper LOs I never worried about cutting the photos....I always get doubles....one set for storage and one for scrapping. That way there wasn't any guilt and I could do what I wanted to my pics for my LOs. But I do have to admit that getting all those fancy scissors was a waste....I only used them on 2 LO and that was it. I didn't like the look. I liked more realistic LO and simplier I guess. I do have some that make me gringe but mostly I like my work...because it was mine and they show how the trends and styles have changed over the years in scrapping. Because of the popularity increase more options are available to us now than say even 5 years ago. We all do great LO and we should be extremely proud of every single one because love went into them.....no matter how aweful they are...lol.
