This week in school they are starting the Family Life unit and in 5th grade they learn all about the birds and the bees with people (last year it was dogs, but no details). This year it's details. So...we didn't want him hearing it for the first time at school so we had that dreaded birds and bees talk last night. He was totally grossed out and then he said, "So you and Dad had to do that 4 times? EWWWWWW!" (I see a layout in there somewhere)

And now today he's had a girl call twice after school and he's only been home 25 minutes. Oh...I am so not ready for this. I have to do this 3 more times too. Can I skip the teen years somehow????? I don't want to do this!!! I had babies, not pre-teens and teenagers. LOL!

Sorry to hear that, Michele! I've got time before we have to face that, but I know it will happen far too soon! Be thankful...our school taught us in 3rd grade! So he had two more years of innocence :)

ROFL... about the 4 times. That kills me. I know just how you feel, it's so hard to see the little ones grow up.

O...M...G! Michele! What a milestone, eh? I remember being SO disgusted when my mom explained this to me.

So, only four times? You animal you!

LOL I've been through it twice already, and have two more times to go...

However my children have learned, age appropriately of course, about the birds and bees, as they have grown, so even my 7 yr old has an idea about the birds and the bees....

Oh - we are about 2 years away from that. Ugh!
LOL on the "had to do it 4x's " part - that would make a great layout! LOL!
Hugs, Michele!!!

We do that too as they ask questions, but my oldest son NEVER asks the questions. He wants to know nothing about any of it so we really hadn't given him any details. My daugther on the other hand who is 3 yrs younger probably knows more because she asks more questions. So this was a total shock for him, but I didn't want him to hear it first at school. He told his teacher yesterday that he wasn't sure he could sit through the babies talk at school without throwing up. LOL!

So...for the moment we're going to let him think that we did it ONLY 4 times. LOL!

Oh Michele - I am with you - we had to have the talk last year with my oldest and wow it was the hardest longest talk I ever had with her. I swear you could hear the crickets chirping after I stopped - she was mortified and didn't want to ask anything. It is really hard watching them grow and not feel sad so I am with you on this....wish there was a way to keep them small.....

BWAHAHAHA!

I vividly remember my parents telling us girls at the dinner table.. I must have been 9 or so. I don't remember being grossed out.

I DO remember being grossed out when my mom shared with me about menstruation!

This thread just reminded me of a story. When I was pregnant with DS my DD was 4 years old. We talked about how mommy got pregnant in VERY general terms. Then, at my next Doctor appt. she shared the whole story. Here's what she said. "Well, the Daddy has some sperm, and the Mommy has an egg. The Daddy asks the Mommy if she would like some sperm to go with her egg, and the Mommy says- Yes, Please. And so they get a baby." My doctor was trying so hard to keep a straight face. It was so funny.

LOL! Reminds me of my mom's explanations about bees and flowers and fertilization and pollen... she was more embarassed than me! I was 5 and started to ask since she was preggo with my little brother. But I don't remember when I got the REAL story! LOL

So it doesn't get any easier, Rachael? I was hoping by #3 I'd be a pro.

But Darla you are right..that is what is the toughest is that it's like another passage into the next stage. The innocence is going away and they are growing up.
