I saw this rockin' layout in the gallery:

Your credits say that you used a floral brush to cut out branches from Traci's papers...can you explain that to me? I want more info. I'm LOVING how that turned out!

:) thanks - I really wanted to extend branches out so I found a brush that had branches and leaves that kind of looked like the flowers on this tree. I stamped it on top of the dark paper in white and then went and selected it all with my magic selection wand. I use PSE but I think PS has that too right? I had to hold down the shift key and zoom in tight to get it all because the actual brush was a bit grunged up and not a solid area to select. When everything was selected, I clicked down to the paper layer and did a layer>new>layer via cut (or shift+cntl+j) to create a new layer with just the shape from the paper. After copying it to my layout, I then just used a round brush and colored the leaves myself.
I am not guru on my program so maybe there is an easier way to do this but it's the way I cut any shape from brushes I might have (including my swirls) from papers from a particular kit. Hope this makes sense..... :)

hmmm...i'll have to try following your directions when my brain isn't mush (wait--that might be like 10 years from now! lol) and I've got my program open. Thanks, chickie!!

Sometimes you can
--select the brush layer (Ctrl + click on the thumbnail preview in the layers pallette) - marching ants will appear.
--If the selection/brush is too thin (b/c of grunginess or distressing) you can expand the selection - SELECT==>MODIFY==>EXPAND (start w/1 or 2 pixels and expand more if needed)
--Click on your paper layer in the layers pallete
--Ctrl + X (or EDIT ==> CUT) to cut the paper in the size of your selection

... or you could use a clipping mask. In PS, place a paper over the brush layer, and then hit ctrl-g. The paper takes the shape of whatever is on the layer below it!
Rockin layout, Darla dear! Love the branch effect...

And depending on the opacity of the brush, you can get some really interesting results this way!
