how do I download with a mac?

I have just made the switch to mac from pc. I am not sure how to download kits etc with a mac. With a pc I would download and then unzip and place my downloads in a folder.
Could someone please tell me the steps to download with a mac?

mine automatically unzip but if they dont open up Stuff-it from the applications and drag it there

I click the download thingy and it will save it straight to my desktop (you can change where things are saved to by going into safari's prefrences) and it will unzip automatically (Like andy said), then I just drag the file to where I want to keep it (so my desktop isn't crowded)...

Thanks for your help. I am slowly getting the hang of it. Sometimes I feel like I am in another world but usually things are familiar but different.
