Geesh, you'd think I was a new Mom or something, LOL........ okay, so you know I was sick..... then Dane was sick...... well now DYLAN is sick. Ugh! I just took his temp and it was 104. I dont like high fevers. They make me nervous. I am always terrified that the kids will seize and I will FREAK OUT. I just gave him some Mortrin (he hasnt had any since last night). Should I call the doctor's office on a Sat? Or wait and see what happens with this fever??

Hey Rachael - I am with you - when my dd got sick in February those 2 weeks - she kept spiking up to 105.6. I swear I thought I was going to go crazy because I didn't know if I should call the dr either. I did find this site that kind of helped me figure out what to look for and when I should call the dr as opposed to 911. Amy did have a seizure when she was a few months old and I never want to go through that again. Check it out here: http://children.webmd.com/tc/Fever-Age-4-and-Older-Check-Your-Symptoms
When the girls have temps - I use both Motrin and Tylenol - motrin every 8 hours and tylenol about 4 to 6 hours. It was something my dr recommended. Now should you call - it was midnight for me and I did call. Just having someone reassure me or give me directions really put my mind at ease and it was Saturday. So it's early for you - so do it. But I would also suggest a cool bath to help bring the fever down quicker.....

I would do it too! My dd had a temp of 104 one time and the poor thing was making me burn up with her laying on me. I took her to the emergency room, but do what you feel as a mom and don't worry about calling the doc on a saturday, they are in it to help and save and with a temp that high I don't think they would mind. Praying for you and your family!

It wouldn't hurt, and what's the worst that can happen? The dr. says you didn't need to call?
I piggy-back Motrin and Tylenol too, always being super careful that I'm doing it right. I think you give them motrin, then in 4 hours a dose of tylenol, then in 2 hours motrin, then 2 hours tylenol, and just keep spacing them out correctly. You couldnt' double check with the pharmacy first.
gosh, sorry everyone's been sick!!!

I have also been told its okay to use Motrin and Tylenol together but I did think to get Tylenol last night when I was buying more Motrin. :(
Thankfully the Motrin and a shower helped..... he is down to 101!!!

I would call! Esp w/our doctor's office they are closed on Sundays and they no longer have an answering machine...just if it's an emergency to bring to ER lol. Usually a nurse will talk to you, and if needed the doctor. Glad his temp is going down.
Also, you never know...there may be something going around and calling in they will say that and maybe give some instructions on what to do is x, y or z happens later on.

He just got up from a nap and is totally freaking me out. He feels much cooler but he is confused, he keeps walking around the house and is talking crazy. I got him to lay down again and he jumped up and said he felt like he needed to do math because he was dizzy!? WTH?

yeah, I'd call if it was over 103 and wasn't responding to the piggy backed Tylenol/Motrin deal.
hope he's feeling better!

Girl....take him to urgent care. It sounds like he is getting worse. My mom gets really dillusional when she is dehydrated. Like she wanders and mumbles crazy stuff. Where we live, urgent care is nothing more then my normal co-pay and they are open all the crazy hours that docs. aren't!
I am praying for you little guy! Hugs!

Did you call the doctor and describe what is going on? Do you have an urgent care you can go to instead of the emergency? We have that for the weekends.

OMG girl definitely call or visit a dr, fevers that don't go down with meds and showers and then strange behaviour is NOT normal and worth worrying about!
Hope things work out better for you soon!

Oh Rachael!! How upsetting- yes I'd be at CareNow or something-- do you have something like that??

Yeah, I'd definitely call the doc about the hallucinations/weird behavior. I'm glad that the fever went down, but you want to keep an eye on the other stuff. They'll probably tell you that it's ok since he's responding to the meds. Is he still spiking the fever?

See, i would have skipped calling all together and gone to the urgent care/ ER I'm like that though LOL...
I definitely thin he needs to be seen by someone, sounds like he could be really dehydrated or something!

I would call then.
My doctor told me once to piggyback the motrin/tylenol too and if the fever comes down then they should be fine, but if after 24 hours it does not come down at all or other symptoms arise, then call.
This is directly from my peds website. He has a whole section broken down by symptom and then tell syou exactly when to call the doc...
When should I call my doctor?

Sorry I didnt check back in sooner.... Dylan is still doing okay..... his fever spikes when the meds start to wear off but in general is okay, just tired and achey. I need to head out to get more meds but we are expecting a Nor'Easter today. UGH.
