Ok So we are thinking of going back to Vegas for our belated anniversary (we married there 2 years ago in May) and we are trying to decide between the Luxor and the Venetian. You chickies stayed at the Luxor for your conference didn't you?
We stayed at Circus Circus last time for our wedding because our DD was with us so we thought it would be best for her (and it allowed up do get married cheaply). And we have no regrets but thought we'd like it a bit better and further down the strip this time (when it's just us). We are having trouble deciding, on the one hand the Luxor package is 3 nights and $1,000 cheaper than the Venetian at 4 nights with a suite...we probably wouldn't spend enough time in our hotel to make it worth the extra money. The Luxor looked very nice when we walked through it before. What would you chickies do? Did you like the Luxor? (Do they have room service? Our wedding night we married at 8:00 PM and when we got back to the hotel there was no room service and all the restaurants were packed and we ended up with no dinner!)
Do we go for the pampering at the Venetian or go for the Luxor which is (most likely ?) a good, nice place and have more $$$ to spend on shows and SHOPPING (love the sunglasses and knock off purses they have all over the strip)??? HELP!!!

I've stayed at the Luxor before... but not the Venetian. You're paying for the luxury as well as being mid strip. The Luxor is way down on the south end of the strip (so you're near Mandalay bay, Excalibur, NYNY and MGM grand... but that's it... then it's quite a walk (or cab, bus, or monorail) to all the rest of the big hotels mid-strip. We recently went and stayed at the Imperial Palace (mid strip) and while it's pretty cheezy and I won't recommend it... I definitely like staying mid strip waaaayyy better! We visited the south end for a restaurant/club night, but there was so much less walking that it made the stay more enjoyable!
The Luxor itself is a nice hotel... (I'd recommend a corner room/suite with the jacuzzi tub!)... but there isn't much there for attractions or good restaurants... when we stayed there we spent 75% of our time at MGM and the rest at Mandalay Bay!
HTH!

Thanks for the advice, Now I started looking at the Mirage and Treasure Island (although DH thinks TI is too far up) Monte Carlo wouldn't be bad but is says there are major renovations next door and Aladdin is also undergoing major renos.
Hmmm...So Luxor, MGM, Mirage, Treasure Island anyone???

I've stayed at most of those and to be honest..it's really a toss up. TI has just gone a complete renovation and all of Las Vegas is going away form the family format they tried a few years ago so they are all renovating somewhat and trying to get rid of the family stuff that was in the hotels. I personally like the Venetian the best because it feels luxurious. MGM has a ton of stuff to do and some great places to eat. We often go there to eat even when we dont' stay there. The Mirage is very very nice too. I would go online and look at all the pics and see what things they have to offer and choose from that. I can't say I've really ever stayed at a bad hotel in Las Vegas except the time we stayed at the Sands (went with dh for biz and company chose and paid) and it turned out that 2 weeks after we left they blew the place up so now I know why it was so awful.

Venetian!!!! I've stayed at the Luxor twice now and while very nice, it really isn't that special - I would recommend going there and looking around though, as for staying there it isn't anything that unusual. My husband stayed at the Venetian on a business trip and he said it was more upscale - so if I were you, I'd try that or anything midi-strip. The walk from the Luxor is a LONG one! :)

Thanks girls! That's true about the Luxor being a bit far away...hmmm. Do I dare spend the extra money on pampering us? We never did get an actual honeymoon as my mom and DD were with us when we married and Hurricane Wilma destroyed our luxury Mexican vacation, then I wanted a new house and blah blah blah the money was spent.
I am notorious for being wishy washy in decisions. I printed off a map and think that I will try the mid strip, now to narrow it down. The MGM makes me worry cuz when we were there they had BUGS!!! Big black ones that were on the strip but got the worst at the MGM. The sidewalk around the hotel was literally moving and some ladies that were in a conference there said they fell out of the celing tiles and dropped on some poor girls head! UGH!! I am always worried they come back each year at the same time and have never wanted to go there since. :23:
Sorry I'm so long winded, we are only getting to do this since our union voted to accept the newest contract last night so I am PUMPED! :60:
Anymore awesome advice?

Ugh! I do not recommend the Luxor. We had a "cheap" package....and the reason it was cheap is because the rooms on the glassback side were on the other side of the "Ra" nightclub wall (yes, talk about your pounding dance music).....
If I was going to stay on that end of the strip, I'd do Mandalay Bay. For mid-strip, the Venetian.

I've only been to Vegas once, so I don't have a whole lot to compare it to. The Luxor was nice and, I really didn't mind the walk. It is long though. Personally, I would stay at a less plush place so I could spend more $$ on shows. The Luxor was plenty nice... but maybe I'm just use to hotels in Europe. LOL

Thanks Laura, that's kind of what I was thinking. Somewhere middle of the road so that we can still have $$ to shop and see shows. DH still likes the idea of the Luxor (but he's a lot more athletic than I am LOL). Thanks for the advice ladies!
