Is there some little trick to apply a brush along the outside of a layer? I'm thinking that I have to use the Paths tool but have never used it so don't know how to even play with it to figure it out. I hope this question makes sense...in case it doesn't maybe this example will help. Say I have a layer and I want to use a round brush to apply little cirlces all along the outside or even just inside the border of the layer...hope that better explains what I'm trying to figure out. :teeth_smi I stink at explaining things. LOL
Thanks!

Okay to use the path tool you would first use your marquee tool to mark the path you want so if you wanted to put a brush path along the edges you would use the square marquee and place the outline just inside the border. then make sure you have a new layer and it is selected. Chose you colour and your brush. Click on the Paths tab in your palette. At the bottom there are functions you first want to select the button that states mark path. Your path will be selected then and you would then click the stroke path with brush button. All these buttons are at the bottom of the Path palette. If it doesn't look quite what you want and you need to adjust the size of your brush just do edit undo and resize your brush or select a different colour and then do the mark path selection again. Do this until you have what you want. When you are done and you have what you want click the make a new work path to get the marquee lines to disappear. Voila!!

You could also CONTROL + CLICK on the layer for an instant marquee and then follow the same steps. (This works for those odd shapes that would be hard to use a lasso or regular marquee tools...)

Marsha (or anyone else who may know!), this control + click has piqued my interest. I've been trying to figure out how to select an entire layer for a while now, and I gave up on it figuring it couldn't be done. I've tried the control + click with the selection tool but nothing happened. What tool do you have open when you do this? Thanks so much for your help!

Are you control + clicking on the thumbnail in the layers pallette?

Yep, I was doing it wrong. I was trying to actually click on the lo, not on the thumbnail in the layers pallette. Works like a charm! Thanks so much for your help, I just love learning new tricks!
