Are any of you guys cell phone only? How do you handle internet access?
We're trying to decide what to do when we move to the new house. Right now we're cell only and use a cable modem for internet access. In the new house, we're thinking about going with a satellite, though, and DH says that he's heard satellite internet is really slow.
What do you guys do? I know we're not the only cell-only people around here.

We do not have a land line phone and havent for almost 3 years. We converted our home phone number into a cell phone and then each of us have our own cell phone. I wouldn't do the home phone as a cell phone, it's just an extra number imho.
We have comcast cable as our internet provider. We are very happy with it too.
I know that comcast has some great deals for cable, internet and digital voice phone now if that is an option.
I just want to caution you about being all cell phones. We are relatively close to 3 different cell towers and have awful reception at my house. Often we drop calls after 15ish minutes because the cell tower is being bombarded with data being sent through and they haven't converted the cell towers to better equipment to handle it. Yes I know this because my dad works for motorola and his division builds cell towers. The cellular phone companies don't admit that and won't. I would make sure you are going to have great signal strength before you go all celluar. We had great signal strength at our previous house but here it's rotten.
Supposedly there is a piece of equipment, the link is either on my other computer or I dumped it that allows you to be all cellular and will convert the signal through your wall outlets allowing you to use land line phones somehow. If you are interested p-mail me and I'll see if I still have the link on my other computer.
Good luck with your decision
DUH I should have read a bit more closely when you said you were ALREADY cell only!

We have only cell phones, and we get our internet through the cable company (don't have cable for the TV, just Road Runner). We're happy with the setup :)

We have satalite and I have to be honest. Its extremely expensive and extremely slow. We have landlines, but out here in the middle of nowhere, there isn't cable or dsl so satalite was pretty much our only option.

Thanks for the info so far...and Laura, yes, we're already cell only. We had pretty good cell coverage when we were there looking at the house, so we're hoping it should be fine. that's something DH is going to look into more carefully before we actually move in, though.
ANybody else? A cable modem without getting cable (like if we go with satellite) is pretty expensive...

Personally, I am a fan of the cable television and internet...I've heard too many crappy things about the dish :(

Well, I'm waiting for FiOS TV out there....Verizon just got approved to compete against Comcast with FiOS TV (cable through their internet) in this area. Considering Comcast is our only cable option, people all over town are just waiting... :) I've had both Dish and DirecTv before, and we did not want to get locked into a year contract....

We also are cell phones only (going on almost 3 years now) and then we have our cable/high speed internet thru Cox. When we first moved into our house we didn't get very good reception in the house with cells so we had a land line. But as soon as the reception improved we dumped it! At my old job we had dsl thru the phone company & it was sooooo slow! Downloading anything took forever. So my DH refuses to switch to it at home even if it is supposedly cheaper than the cable/internet.

Hmmm...sounds like cable is what most people do. Ok, we'll have to think about that. :regular_s

I have a land line (Digital voice), 4 cells, cable tv and we use the cable company for our internet. I wont be going cell only with our service being so sketchy here (plus, I dont need sales calls while I am grocery shopping, LOL).

We did cable modem for a while and we never had the cable service (but because we had the cable modem we for some reason were able to get the basic cable service on our tv's even though we weren't paying for it). But anyways..it was more expensive, but now Verizon has fios here so we have everything with verizon...tv, internet, land phone and cell phones and we love it all. We thought about going all cell too, but then I'd have to buy my kids a cell phone. LOL! THey are 10 and 8 and I'm not doing that!!! Plus we have an alarm system and as of now they need a landline phone. We'd like to swith to an internet phone service, but until our alarm system can handle that we are stuck with a land line.

I WISH I could be cell only.. but my block is the only block in my neighborhood where my cell has crappy coverage! ACK! I can go five houses away to my sister's house and have a signal. But at my house? NOPE. I have heard too though that satellite isn't that great... I LOVE my cable :)

Sinead, My mom has satellite TV, but has cable internet.... where we are at you can do that and its no big deal price wise :)
We personally went cell only, but we have cable tv and internet, we have too many trees around to get satellite, plus for us it would be more expensive with all the extra boxes.

well, the cable company doesn't offer a DVR service, and if we did cable and satellite, then it'd be more than $100 a month. ick. I wish there was an easy and simple solution. We might do cable and then just buy another TiVo (we have one, but it's a single tuner and we've been spoiled by one dual tuner and one single tuner). We'll see...
