Okay, so my Camille is 3 1/2 and has just moved up to her big girl bed. Colors in her room are pink/lavendar/light blue & yellow. Walls are painted blue clouds (from the nursery days) and we're going to leave that. Her "theme" is flowers. Lots of cute flowery things all over and a cottage style bed & furniture.

I made the cutest artwork to hang above her headboard. 4 shadow box frames lined with digital paper & each with a different colored gerber daisy. So stinkin' cute!! Will post a pic later.

So, my question is this...
DH is NOT into hanging this stuff over her bed for safety reasons. She bangs on the walls, bounces on the bed and he's afraid that one could come down & hurt her. I can hang this set somewhere else, but I'm stumped for what to do above her bed now.

So.....can you guys give me some suggestions for what you might put above a kiddo's bed? Something not heavy and w/out glass??

THANKS!!!
p.s. I posted this over at DST too - just in case you see it twice :embaresse

So it's kind of a garden-y/flower-y theme? What about having big fabric/felt/paper flowers "growing" from her headboard? You could even do fabric or paper butterflies as well...

or one of those canopy things, it's like netting and it comes in different colors and it hangs from the ceiling over the head of the bed and kinda cascades around. My daughter had a pink one and it really made her room look princess-y. It was cheap too, we got it at Wal-Mart for less than $10. It had a screw hook that screwed into the ceiling and it hung from that and there were no real saftey hazards.

I was thinking the canopy too. You could even put fabric flowers on the canopy if you wanted, to add to the theme (or water drops, coming from a watering can on the wall?? You know, watering the bed??) I can't wait to see pictures :)

I decorated both of my little boys walls with fabric and roping. I cut the fabric into the shapes that I needed, stapled the edges (the very edge) onto the wall, and then hot-glued roping over the edge to hide the staples and finish off the edge. Super cute and Super cheap!!
Here's a LO that I did of Jack's nursery- I created sailboats for him (with rope waves under them) and in Henry's I created a plam tree and a sun (he has a surf themed room):

I can send you up-close photos if you'd like- you could create flowers over her bed with the fabric. HTH!

I was thinking along the lines of a canopy type thing also.
Another idea might be to have a large picture or LO printed and mounted on foam board... that way it would be very lightweight and wouldn't hurt her if it fell! Maybe something spelling out her name?

oh yeah--a canopy! I've got a canopy over Katie's crib and over Maggie's dress-up closet...You can just see the edge of the dress up canopy in this layout:

and here it is on Maggie's head (lol):

What about free hand drawing/painting some there? I've done stuff in all my kids rooms like that. when Lindsey was born I drew a HUGE giraffe. (we didn't know the sex of the baby when I was preggo with her) And I did a bright colored nursery. Red,Yellow, Blue and Green with jungle animals.... Anyhoo the giraffe was by the door and it was darling.

How about any baby quilt that she may have gotten? Those always make great wall hangings.

i love the canopy idea (and actually have one in her closet - still in the package). i am just so nervous that she'll get all tangled and twisted in it during the night or something.

i should have mentioned that she's got murals painted in her room (a big tree in the corner w/ little bunny rabbits). we're trying to transition from the storybook nursery to a flower garden without repainting (cause she doesn't want to change her walls :P).

a stroke of genius hit me this morning.... i love these hanging canvases from poshtots. (http://www.poshtots.com/catalog/Deco...uct_detail.asp (http://www.poshtots.com/catalog/Decor/Popular-Artwork-for-Girls/Pretend-Wall-Hanging/1446/2384/product_detail.asp))

i was thinking about maybe creating something to match her theme in Photoshop & then having it printed on canvas. Checked around today, and a 16x20 would only cost me about $20. Hang it with a dowel rod & add some cute ribbons. what do you gals think about that??

These ideas are GREAT ladies!! Thank you!!

oooh, nonnie! that's a great idea! i actually have one that was made by my great-grandmother for me, that she has inherited. she LOVES it though, and may not be too keen on me putting it on the wall :) LOL!!

If you make the canvas, make sure you post pictures so we can all see! (I can't believe the price on your inspiration piece! And they tout it as cost effective!)

That's a cute idea! I can't believe the price for them, though...Hey, I think Shutterfly is having a sale on canvases...they were a week or so ago, at least.

For the canopy, I've got a friend whose four year old has a canopy over her bed, too. She put one of those little cup hooks on the back corner of each side of the headboard and loops the canopy behind the headboard with those hooks every night to keep her daughter from messing with them in her sleep.
