Yesterday noticed a big puddle on the floor. Freezer defrosted. Thought Lily had been playing around and left freezer door open. Does not seem to be the case as today the freezer isn't colder. Today I notice that the fridge part is not as cold as it should be. Sigh.
it has power. it's a little cold but not nearly as cold as it should be. it's a side by side kind.
guess I will be dumping everything today. good thing it's garbage day.

Sorry, no help here either! Hope it isn't too serious, though!

I don't know much about them, but I've got these two thoughts...Is it turned up as cold as it can be? Sometimes that overtaxes it. You might try turning it down maybe to notches. Also, was it jam-packed? Again, that might have overtaxed it. Not sure...hopefully it's something simple like the door wasn't closed all the way.

I have banished both kids to their rooms b/c they keep fighting and I am trying to deal with the fridge.
DH wanted me to call our A/C guy to look at the fridge. mmm, don't think so.
wasn't running at full power nor is it jam packed. it's a mystery. I want to try unplugging it and waiting and plugging it back in . . . I did see that suggested on some site some where. Maybe the fridge is like my cable modem, ha ha ha.
on the bright side, I have the wonderful opportunity to thoroughly clean the fridge AND the freezer, who's jealous?
meanwhile, I miss ice! I miss cold drinking water!
maybe I'll just go back to sleep.

LOL, Mimi, at least you're not losing your sense of humor! I think unplugging the darn thing and waiting for a while wouldn't hurt. Worst could be that you'd shorten its suffering if it's agonizing... Hope it's not totally broken, though!

I think that I am not *that* upset about this is b/c I welcome any excuse not to cook, hee hee.
AND while I was clearing out the freezer I found a mini Take 5 bar (http://www.hersheys.com/products/details/take5.asp), woo hoo. Yep I promptly ate it. Yummo.
and thank goodness for small mercies (or whatever that saying is), I buy the popsicles that are in the plastic sleeves, not the ones on the stick, so at least I don't have a big mess of melted popsicles to clean up. However the kids are now just sucking the juice of them.
now back to my cleaning, fun fun fun . . .

Mimi, you crack me up! I'm going to have to clean out my fridge and freezer next week before we move, so I don't envy you! Actually, we have two fridges (and each have a freezer section), so I'll have to do it twice! ACK!

oh boy, Sinead, I don't envy *you*, 2 fridge cleanings, ugh. but OTOH, nice having 2 fridges
well, plugged fridge back in and let it sit overnight. I'm going to wait a wee bit longer before opening the door and checking inside. not hopeful though b/c water from the dispenser has been coming out warmish.
oh sadness.

It's possibly the thermostate broken or the refrigeration unit, it could also be that the cool ant is empty (leakage) - that's what my husband says.

When we moved into our house it had this huge side by side fridge which we thought was great. Then about 1.5 years later ours ended up doing the same thing as yours, leaking water all over the floor & defrosting everything. We had to have a repairman come out several times to fix it. I know the first time it was around $160 to fix it. I don't remember exactly what was wrong with it each time cause its been awhile but it got old basically having to trash most of what was in there each time! More $$ in the trash! We finally gave up & bought a new fridge, not a side by side though after all that trouble!

ooh, Shawna, you're scarin' me.
Michele, just got back from Subway!
IF I were a wiser person, I'd be making a weekly menu and constructing a shopping list for when the fridge is fixed. That's a big IF.
so now I am waiting for the repair guy to come. Basically chose someone randomly from the phone book. Hope I am not going to get ripped off.

Subway is good!!!! In our house when something breaks we buy a new one. My dh hates getting stuff fixed. I have 1 shelf that is broken in my freezer and the whole fridge is 3.5 years old. He wants to buy a new fridge instead of figuring out how to fix it. I put my foot down on that one. I'm not spending $1200 to replace a broken shelf. LOL! :D

heh heh, Michele, I was looking at new fridges online and decided that this one better be fixable.
well the repair guy has come and gone and we are $169 poorer but the fridge appears to be working now. according to him we needed a new compressor starting kit. he said that was a really common repair. good thing it wasn't the compressor itself or we would need to get a new fridge. gotta wait awhile before filling it with food though. guess I'll be shopping tomorrow.
thank you everyone for keeping me company during my fridge saga. drinks for everyone!:martini_s (sorry no ice yet).

lol Mimi - better get to planning the meals now.... :)
Glad you were able to get it repaired.
Michele - My hubby is the same way, with some things. Most of the time if it's broken and we can squeeze the money out to buy a new one, that's what we do. It gets annoying after awhile.

Glad it wasn't too expensive Mimi, that sounds like what the problem with ours was. Hopefully that will do the trick & he won't have to come back out!
Michelle my hubby is the same way, he's already talking about getting a new washer & dryer because ours are "getting old" according to him & could break down at any time. Hello they are only 6 years old & are working fine, so yeah lets go spend the $$ to get s new set. Yeah right I'd rather have that Digital Rebel camera I've been wanting LOL!
