Long story short I don't have the closing papers and documentaion from when we sold our house. Now I need all of that information from 2005 and somehow it's gone. Let's just say dh has something to do with it.

Can anyone give me advice as to how to go about getting all of that when I'm not sure of who did the closing?

Thanks

Did you work with a realtor or some other type of agent when you sold the house? If so they should have copies of all your closing documents in their files. If not the only other way to get that information would be to go back to the closing company, but if you're not sure who that was that might be a problem!

would there be documentation at the county seat for when the filed documentation? At least then maybe I could find who did the closing

Anyone else?

Maybe on your deed?

That sucks though, I hope you find something that helps you out. I still have our paperwork from when we bought our house, which we sold almost 2 years ago. lol I'm too afraid to get rid of it for reasons like that.

check with your mortgage company. they might not be the originators of your mortgage (they usually sell mortgages to other mortgage companies--not sure why), but they might be able to access that info. My other best guess would be to check with the realtor you used to buy the house.

Your realtor is your best bet, if you had one for that transaction. I ran into this situation for 2006 taxes, and had to call up mine - he had exactly what I needed on file.

If all else fails, look at the Yellow Pages or Dexknows for title/closing companies in the area you sold your house. You might have to call each and every one of them.
