So today was Maggie's first day of school. Of course I took pictures this morning, right? WRONG! She was such a wreck and crying about not wanting to go to school (despite the fact that she was giddy about it last night) and crying about just about everything that i decided not to add to the fire by pulling out my camera. Am I crazy? I figured I could take pics some other lower stress morning. I did take a pic this afternoon, though, so at least I got a "first day" pic. lol
Did this happen to anybody else?

I don't have kids yet, but from experience (taking pix of the mayor visiting classes on first day) I know that children may not seem happy to leave their parents on first day, but most of them forget about their sadness when they're in the class room! Yes, this is the sad but true reality: they completely forget about you when they see their friends, and that starts waaaaayyyyyy before teenage! ROFL!

oh, she was probably fine once school actually started. I've already picked her up and she said it was a "GREAT" day, though I'm sure the waterworks will be going on tomorrow morning as well. That's pretty much what happened last year, too. lol

I would not feel bad, personally I would not have taken pictures either. She is normal, and so are you Mama!! I totally agree about taking pics on a morning when she is in a better mood!

Well technically it's still the first day of school. Break out the backpack and take her outside now when she's happier. Have her tell you about what happened at chool or what she thinks about her classmates & teacher and use that for the journaling. You might also want to incorporate that first day of school mornings are not so good for her.
good luck!

Yep - it happened to us last year on Connor's first day of 1st grade, and I took the pictures anyway, and scrapped it anyway :)
I'm just a bad mom that way LOL

What?!?! No picture?!?! lol Kidding - of course it's ok. Just try another day, and like you said you took one this afternoon, so you do have at least 1 official "first day of school" photo - who cares if it's from before or after she went to school.

I hope it went well! I think I got 10 pictures today (the first day here as well) - Jace didn't want to go back, but I think at the end of the day he was glad to see his buddies again.

I took photos of both of the boys out front this morning, took my camera, but didn't take any more! I've taken them before at school, but they usually turn out better at home - less distractions! I was even in Matthew's room with him all day and still didn't take any - too busy helping then...

I'm a lot like Darcy (but probably a way worse "Bad Mom") and would have snapped lots of photos and then did a layout and saved lots of 'bribery' photos!
I'm sorry Maggie had a rough morning but it's great that she came home happy! Hopefully today will be better!

Hey ya want to know whats even worse than deciding not to take any because it wasn't the right moment (her crying)... Forgetting and having your 11 yr old say to you "Hey mom, it's the first day of school don't you want any pictures?" I almost forgot. This year he has to get up 1 hour and a half earlier. I guess my brain wasn't up yet.

lol nope. my pics are still on the camera. how's that for slacking? hehehe it doesn't help that DH gave me his head cold which has been much more of a sinus/sinus headache (brain-exploding headache) sort of a thing for me. oh joy.

Today was Kaylie's first day of Kindergarten, I took several out front at home before we walked her to school, then I took a couple in front of the school's big sign and then a few in her classroom. That was about all she'd tolerate, she was ready for me to leave LOL! Then we took a few when we came back home! About 18 total I think!
Of course next week I get to do it all over again when Kelsie starts preschool. And as much as she wants school to start I'm wondering how she'll actually do when its time for me to leave her there! She may cry like Maggie!
