OMG, my dog is farting so much these days and it's killing me. I mean, it's just nasty. She seems to enjoy doing it when I'm at the computer and she's laying at my feet. Can't blame her for having a sense of humor, but it turns my stomach. And it just LINGERS there, kwim? She's eating the same food as usual.
(omg, I am so not kdding, as I sat here typing this she walked by and I got yet another wave of nauseating gas. WTH??)

I've got a cat who does that. He's recently become a strictly outdoors cat for this (as well as other stinky/cleaning related issues). He's such a goof...he can walk right by and pass the most ferocious smell. The vet says he checks out fine. I think he's just got a wonky digestive tract.
Thread hijack, actually...
has anyone tried the new Iams Digestive cat (or dog, I suppose) food? Does it work for issues like this?

I just have to say that having a farting dog is terrible. I firmly believe that there is not much worse than that!! Pee-Eww!

Talk to your vet. It is a food issue I am sure. And this is going to sound gross but sometimes they need their anal glads squeezed.
And in case you were wondering- my dad is a vet. I feel the need to explain my knowledge of anal glads.

Iams Digestive? I'll have to research that a bit.

Well, nothing jumped out at my on their site, but I'm thinking that it's prolly a specialty food and costs a fortune. My dog will eat sticks, she doesn't need any primo dog food. Hmm... maybe it's all the sticks she's eating. HA!

Amanda, you crack me up!! I don't think I even want to know how someone would go about doing that!!!
So you think that the stinky pet thing could be a food issue? even if said pet is already on a pretty good food? (A former vet told us Iams was pretty good for a cat with digestive issues, but it seems to make no difference for our smelly cat.)

ROFL! My cat is the same, he's the cutest but stinckiest cat ever! He's still young and has diarrhea since we have him, so that's probably related. Vet says it's because he was very young when we took him home... The worst part is that he doesn't cover his poop in the litter, so that smells even worse!
Oh, Jenn, I used to think that dogs were the worst, but cats are even more terrible! How can such a small animal produce such disgusting smells?? LOL

My dog has this problem occasionally too, it's nothing serious with him, usually too much people food. We cannot use Iams at all, my dog has a wheat allergy (which we discovered after several years of bulimic behavior!).

I didn't know Val had a dog.
Sorry, I have no advice about gassy pets.

Chloe, this is exactly our cat! He was a rescue cat--he'd been abused (broken rib and broken tail) and then dropped at a shelter with a 3 day kill policy. Lucky for him, there was a chemical plant explosion nearby and he got shipped out to a rescue agency and we adopted him. He's always been stinky and doesn't clean his litter box (or himself, for that matter). I didn't think about the very young part...

Yep our bigger dog does it and the funny thing is when he does it and it makes a sound he's looking all around for where that noise came from...baahhhhhhhhhhhhhh
my dogs farts are heritary...he gets it from my husband.

ROFL, you girls are hilarious!
Sinead, I think our cats have the same problem: they've probably never been taught properly how to use a litter or clean themselves. We've decided to buy a cat shampoo and give him a shower when the smells gets so bad that we can't cuddle him anymore, so I'll let you know if it gets better!

You're so good. Our poor O'Neill just got booted outside. lol! Actually, he prefers it out there, though he'd like to be able to come inside to use the litter box (and stink it up for poor Meg, our other--much cleaner--cat) and eat Meg's food. He wasn't so bad when Maggie was small because he was small, too, but now he's huge (and 17 pounds, so overweight, too) and probably can't clean himself properly because he can't reach. I just can't have his germiness around Katie who's busy crawling around and putting everything in her mouth and I don't have time to chase after him all the time to make sure he's cleaning himself. Poor guy. He's ok if we go hang with him outside, though, so we'll have to be sure to do more of that.

Suuuuure, Val....BLAME it on the dog...sheesh!! :drinks:
That IS weird that he's extra gassy...could the heat have anything to do with it? Or maybe he needs a change in food, something lighter, if he is getting older? Just two random thoughts :smile2:

You know, now that I'm thinking about it. She's been on weight control food forever, but we went back to regular food a few months ago, when summer hit and she was more active again. maybe that's the difference? i'll have to pick up the weight control again next time i buy food and see if that makes a difference.

Yep, but it's been for all 15 years of her life! She's on a holostic and all natural food so it's not that! We've also had the anal glands squeezed so it's not that, dog gas just smells BAD! And some are gassier than others, just like people! ;)

We had a cat that did that. We talked to the vet and changed her diet.

Anyone else singing smell cat from friends?? LOL
I have no idea, I have a farting cat as well... I thought it was just me, glad I am not the only one!! Maybe a change in dog food would help, or get him to quit eating sticks? LOL
