Ok, so my kids had to go to the doctor today to get meningitis shots and varivax boosters. Since my DH had to go in and get a prescription refilled, he took them so I could stay home and clean the house.

So, my youngest DD was up first, but she started to freak out, so her older sister got in the chair to get it over with. So got one in each arm and after it was over, she got out of the chair to let her sister get in and my DH was holding youngest DD because she was throwing a FIT and the doctor was giving the shots and what happens? My oldest DD passed out and hit her head on the bottom hinge of the door jam.

She has a two inch gash on her head and is getting stitches as we speak. She has a minor concussion and she broke a tooth and cut her lip. There was blood everywhere. While DH is telling me all this, I can hear her screaming "I want Mom, I want Mom." So I am sitting her crying my eyes out because I'm not there with her! I feel so helpless!!

Update:
She had to have 12 stitches in her forehead and six internal stitches before they put the 12 in. She also has 10 stitches in her lip. She's on her way to the dentist to have the tooth checked out to see how damaged it is. The fall pushed it back some.

OMG! That is scary! I guess if it's going to happen, the doctor's office is the best place so they can deal with it right away though! My oldest hates shots and I always tease that he's going to get hurt when my dh is holding him down...guess I better not kid about it anymore!

You know Michele, I was telling DH that it probably happened at the best place if it had to happen at all. He said that he thinks every doctor in the clinic came running in to check on her and the ER is right next door.

She's in a lot of pain, but she says the meds are helping her. I hate to see her hurting like this.

{{{HUGS}}} Oh my - I would be going crazy. You give her a big hug for me! So sorry she had that happen - and she was being such a trooper too. Glad she's ok...I've heard about this happening (the passing out after the shot) w/a high-schooler (I believe...some teen) when he was getting a shot required in order for him to join the football team several years ago. Scary stuff. I'll have to remember to watch my girls extra close after their next shots.

OMGosh Paula, I'm so sorry for you and for your poor DD! I can't even imagine that! Did she have an allergic reaction to the shots? Has she ever passed out before or was it just nerves? Ohmyheck is right! Big hugs to you and to her!

Thanks Pam. To answer your question, they believe she passed out as a result of an adrenalin overload due to the pain of the shot and nerves. She has never passed out before which is one reason everyone was so freaked out about it.

She's feeling much better now, she just wishes she could wash her hair and eat. She still can't bear to put a spoon in her mouth, so she eats everything (pudding, milkshakes, mashed potatoes) through a straw.
