While serving in Iraq, my BIL impressed some folks, so when he got done with his 2nd tour of duty, they offered him a job at National Guard headquarters in Arlington, Virginia.

We all told him he'd be a fool to pass it up (the job situation is okay here, but he was having issues with his pre-deployment employer), so now he and my sister and my nieces and nephews are moving.....to Virginia!

This may not seem like a long distance to you...but I'm in Oregon. That's a long way....fortunately, I'll be on the East Coast next June for a conference, so I'll just take more vacation time and meet my new niece at that time.

Tonight, we're going over to my mom's house (my sister's house sold/closed) for a casual dinner and goodbye....and tomorrow they set off to drive across the country.

*sniff*

(((hugs))) Rachel! That sounds like a long way to me! It sounds like a good opportunity for them, though.

{{HUGS}} Glad he has this opportunity and that they sought him out. It's hard to be so far away - hopefully there'll be lots of photos emailed back and forth!

I'm sorry; that's really tough. My furthest-away family is in Virginia too, but that's only 8-9 hours from us and that feels like a long ways! Across the country is a whole lot tougher!

(((hugs))) Aren't you glad we're in the internet age and it's so easy to keep in touch via email etc? Not the same as face to face, but at least we don't have to rely on snail mail!!

aww, that is a bit of a bummer. Yes, that does seem far away. Glad you have a visit to look forward to.

So sorry she's moving away....but she's moving to my neck of the woods. I'm 10 miles west of Arlington, VA.

I'm so sorry Rachel! That is very hard. My sweet brother and his family are in Texas with my parents and I really wish I was closer.

Here's the three of us last night.

The one in the middle is the one that left this morning (at 4 a.m.!).

Yes, I am the shortest. Yes, I am the oldest. And yes, those are my braces. :)

Sorry to hear that you won't be closer! We are far from family also and we wish that we were closer sometimes. Last time we moved we actually moved a bit closer to family, but we still can only get there about twice a year.

Good luck to your sister & her family on their new adventure.
