Josh pulled Jasmine's tray off her high chair with one hand, since he was holding Bekah, and the plate fell off and shattered. He got down and cleaned it up while I kept the girls away, and then he vacuumed well (it was on the dining room carpet).
A few minutes later, Bekah started crying, and when he picked her up, her mouth was bleeding. She had put a tiny shard in her mouth, and it was stuck in her tongue http://forums.ovusoft.com/image/image.aspx/s10.gif He held her still while I worked at taking it out; I finally got it after a frightening minute or two.
It was about an inch long, very thin, and straight down in the middle of her tongue. She stopped crying and it stopped bleeding right away, but I didn't stop shaking for, well, at least 10 minutes. I'll let you know when that's done.

I'm just so thankful it came out, and she didn't actually swallow it. I don't even want to think how badly it could have hurt her if she'd gotten it in her throat!!

O M G how scary, girl! Huge hugs to both of you!
On a side note, I've read that if you wipe off the floor with a piece of bread that all the little shards will get stuck in the bread. Never tried it, but I read it. *shrug*

Thanks!! She is fine; no more bleeding, acting like nothing happened.
Karah, that's good to know. I'd heard a cotton ball worked well too and used that (afterwards, of course) but a piece of bread would be easier for a large area. I thought it took forever wiping down the seat of a chair with a cotton ball; I can't imagine on a floor!
I have to change her clothes before DH's cousin comes by tonight, since ther'es blood on it. Poor sweetie.

Oh my, that's scary! I'm glad you got it out and she didn't swallow it! I hate it when glass breaks. I feel like you can never get it ALL up. You usually end up with a piece in someones foot though - not tongue!
-thanks for the tip, Karah. I hadn't heard that!

Thanks!
Deena, I sure didn't feel like I was staying cool under pressure!!
Now I'm concerned that I got a piece of it in my index finger, because it really hurts to the touch. I'm praying that's not what I'm feeling...
this silly plate is the "gift that keeps on giving..."
I totally agree, Tamra. I always feel like there must be more I didn't see! Just this time that was really true!
