OK... So we have had issues with out house since the day we bought it... ok they did not start the day we bought it, otherwise we would have had some recourse ya know. Basically the people we bought it from were not exactly as forthcoming as they should have been in disclosing defects, and a lot of them were not found in the home inspection, DH took care of all this, and was not here when they did it, so i dunno if the guy just sucked or if these truely were things that could have been missed.

We have a completely finished basement, drywall, brand new carpet (when we moved in anyway), the whole nine yards, that was a selling point of the house. We were told the basement stays dry, and one would assume that if they spent the money to put brand new carpet in, that it does. Not so, it has leaked more times than I can count everytime we get a heavy rain, ESPECIALLY in the room we use as Sophia's bedroom :(

Then in the last few months we have started having this new problem every now and again when we run the washer, it backs up... (you know the drain on the basement floor floods, water is clear, but it sometimes smells and floods the basement). Well the first time this happened we suctioned out the drain as best we could as well, and pieces of drywall came out!! UGH! You have got to be kidding me! So we have tried everything we can think of to fix the problem, asked a few plumber friends, even poured sulfuric acid down the drain, because it will eat away at roots and such...

It did not seem to work at first, then after a few days it seemed better finally! Then all of a sudden the night before last, it backs up again, and is eating away at the paint on the floor:break_everything: apparently the sulfuric acid did not even wash down the drain all the way from weeks earlier! Then last night it happens AGAIN!!! Usually we at least get a couple days in between back ups...

Then this morning I wake up to DH telling me not to flush the toilet because it's backing up when you do! He is going to call around to figure out the best way to fix it, that we have not already tried, or possibly call a plumber that we do not have the money for :(

Oh no! I hope you get it resolved! A question...are you guys on a septic tank? Did the previous owners ever have it cleaned out? (You're supposed to have them pumped out every two-four years but most people don't.)

oh plumbing problems are terrible. Do you have sewer lines? We have to get ours rodded out about once a year or so or else there are problems. Oh they things I never knew until we became homeowners.

I'm sorry but I have to giggle here. This must be one of those Freudian typos . . .

That is funny meems

Seriously though - do you have big trees in your yard? We have to get the roto router guys in once a year with their big machine - they even have a camera on the end of it that can see what the obstruction is. Then they just drill through it all. If it is roots there is some stuff that you can put down the drain once a month to eat away the roots and stuff. If you live some place cold your vent on the roof could also be plugged with ice - I'm sure I'm the ONLY one with that problem. Or it could be plugged with something else like a bird nest or something - worth climbing up there and putting a sewer tape through - you can buy those at the hardware store for about $25. My family has owned a hardware store for 30 years so I've heard almost everything!

OMGosh, did i really type that?? LOL

Well dh is getting a snake from work, so at least we don't have to rent one... hopefully that will do the trick... If not we will be calling a plumber next... I am about convinced it is roots, we do have some big trees, so that is most likely the issue.

So any idea how much that is gonna set us back?? LOL My mom said 100 bucks when she called one out... that is what we have in savings, so if that is all, we will be ok... (that's all we have managed to re-save since Christmas hehe)

It cost us about $100. We have also had public works guys come from the City. If they trees are on the boulevard in front of your house they will usually do it for free - something to check into anyways.

Unfortunately that is not the case... all the trees are in our backyard:break_everything: Besides we live in an unincorporated area... IE not technically a town or city...

100 dollars we can do :) That is making me feel a little better seems everyone i talk to says about the same price LOL

Don't go in my bathroom though, it's starting to smell in there:rofl:

i pay over $100 to get my sewer line rodded. but I think one time I offered to pay cash and they knocked off some off the price. DH made me do that. I suck at the whole bargaining thing.

so any progress, Deena?

DH thinks he has it fixed... he snaked it out pretty good, and we are able to flush again... He is currently running the washer and standing watch while he irons his uniforms :) So this is a good sign!

I hope your DH was able to fix the problem Deena! That sucks to not be able to "live" in your house like normal.

So far so good... The kids took baths, and we have been flushing and successfully ran the washer twice! YAY!! Let's hope it last! At least until we have a little more money saved up LOL
