It's a very strong possibility that this will be DH's next duty station. Currently we are in northern VA. I'm curious if anyone can tell me more info on the area - anything really. The only website that I've really looked at is the base site, and it has no info on the surrounding communities.
So - I'm hoping someone can tell me something. I'm not looking forward to this move. We were stationed in NC for 5y before coming up here and all I wanted was to go back so we could buy a house and stay in the area if DH got out.
TIA!
UPDATED:
We are no longer going to 29 Palms, we're headed to Camp Pendleton now.

Well you'll be out here near me! LOL Ok, not RIGHT near me but I Think 29 Palms is only like an hour away. Some good friends of mine were there for the past 2 or 3 years and I didn't hear any complaints... It is sunny so-cal :) Nice and warm. LOL. 29 Palms is in Joshua tree which is pretty much just the desert.
Now the actual area itself I'm not too sure about but the surrounding areas (like more towards me) are nice - go to google maps and look up 29 palms, ca and then zoom out - I live in rancho cucamonga which is directly west of there.

Though now we are going to Camp Pendleton, same time of year though. The move is going to be interesting. So, anyone near Pendleton, San Diego area???

I lived in San Diego area for awhile before I shifted coasts. The prices on everything is high, be prepared for it (course you are military and you are smart about that). Contact Fleet, Family Service Center to get some information. I have been to Pendleton before--its a nice base. Not a lot around it. Also, if you can--get on the housing list--if housing is available. Although with the market being what it is right now---you might be able to find a house for dirt cheap and then by the time you rotate, sell it and get a whopping hunk of moula!
Good Luck... I am presuming you are Marines. If you need any help--let me know.

Ya Pendleton is waaaay better the 29 palms. Although it would have been cool cause you would have been smack dab between 3 of the site admin :giggle:
You will enjoy it. The weather is always beautiful down there and you are really close to tons of fun stuff.
Seaworld has great deals where if you go once you can come back the rest of the year free, you should check into that, and I know the zoo has something like that too.
Have fun and welcome to the west coast.
