Hey guys, I need some help choosing a digital SLR.
I love photography and Ive been using a really crappy old camera that has finally died.
Because I was in desperate need of a camera (for a major university assignment) I decided to buy a camera and then return it. After having borrowed a friend's Sony a100, I bought the new Sony a200 10.1 megapixel DSLR - it was on sale and was $100 cheaper than the Canon that I had really wanted.
Anyways, last week I won a design competition and received a $1000 (woohoo!) so now I can afford to keep my camera, however Im undecided if I should return the Sony and get the Canon Rebel.
My reasoning is really kind of bad though. My mom is telling me to keep the Sony because it has anti shake built into the body of the camera. However, I've always wanted a Canon simply because I love the quality of a Canon and its status in the photography industry. The Sony is also great, Ive used it and have no real complaints about it, it takes great photos. But I almost feel like people won't take me serious with a Sony! (silliness, I know!)
Any advice/suggestions/experiences?

Sony does have wonderful anti-shake technology and I think that you would be happy with that camera, although (even though I am a NIKON girl) I think that you would enjoy the Canon better. The reason I think that is because of the accessories. You can add many more lenses and such to a Canon. Also....and someone can pop in and let me know if I am wrong, but Canon lenses can be used when you upgrade to a larger camera if you go that route.

I think that checking out the availability and cost of the lenses for the Sony would be a good starting point. I love all my Sony products, but I have a Canon Rebel.
Good luck deciding!!

I'm a libra so Im incredibly indecisive!
A part of me just wants to continue using the camera I already have (the Sony) and not bother with the whole return/exchange policy but I've always wanted a Canon, just cause it's a Canon!
I'm wondering now that Ive been using the Sony, whether Ive gotten used to the anti-shake thats built in.
Decisions, decisions.

I love my Canon 40D :), But I have no experience with the Rebel. I agree with Kelly about comparing the number of lenses and price! I wish I would have done that when I bought my olympus, its a great camera, and some great glass, but the lenses are not as easy to come by and are a bit pricier.
I am not for sure but I think you can use Konica lenses with the Sony as well though :)

I don't have either (I have a Nikon) but it sounds like your reasons for keeping the Sony are a lot stronger than your reasons for wanting a Rebel. I know I felt like I was (pardon the pun) a rebel :giggle: for wanting a Nikon instead, but don't think about that at all and just enjoy my camera.
Anti-shake technology would be a huge plus to me, and having the time to get used to this one is a big thing too. And if you can get lenses reasonably easily...I'd say stick with your Sony!

But Canon and Nikon are standards in the photography industry, Sony is not...

I caved. I exchanged it for the Rebel.
