Ugh...I'm so irritated right now & I'm pretty sure you gals will feel my pain when I explain this situation (oh, and I apologize for the lengthy post....):
My husband's sister is graduating from high school & money is tight, so I told her I would take care of shooting her graduation pics and designing her announcements. No problem, right?
I spend a couple of hours shooting the most amazing pics - I'm really proud of how they turned out. I then spend several more hours de-linting and de-hairing the black shirt that she wore that day. Um, having a lint brush on hand - hindsight is 20/20!! I then create TWO different announcements - one for those who are invited to the ceremony, one for people who are getting the news only. I create 5 or so proofs with varying backgrounds for them to choose from.
MIL calls DH (not me) to place her "order." I order with Winkflash during the sale that they've got going on right now - 5x7s for 8 cents - saving her TONS of money. I supply envelopes from my own stash (150), and send them to the family.
The prints come in from Winkflash today and I call SIL to let her know. The family drops by this afternoon to get their photos. MIL says to SIL, "You did a good job, these look really good." Um, hello? I did all the work. I handed her the receipt from Winkflash, obviously just having her pay for the prints, not my time or anything like I would charge a client. She grabs a check and hands it to me. Her response, "Oh, you're *very* welcome." Then as she's walking away, says, "Oh, yeah, thanks for doing those."
I was LIVID! You know, she never shows appreciation for anything. DH will spend hours on her system, and she'll retrieve her CPU without so much as a thank you. I should not expect much gratitude, but GEEZ! I am 7 months pregnant, have a world of other junk I need to take care of, but I willingly give of my time - - and for what.
Really, I did this for my sister-in-law. She's a total gem and is our ultra-reliable sitter for Camille. She was SO appreciative & really that's what counts, but....ugh. Mothers in law
Okay, rant over. Thanks for indulging me.
