Okay. I'm now in my early 30's. The time when it seems like women get "in a rut" with hairstyles. I just got mine done and highlighted, and I love it.
But what can I do with it on a day-to-day basis? It seems like everyone takes the time to straighten it when they want to look nice, or goes and gets a serious up-do.
I used to pull just the front/top back in a barrette. I'd still do that, but am afraid of getting the "oh no, she's stuck in the 90's" look  (what's funny is how un-with it I was then, too :giggle:)
So what things do people do normally, when they want to look decent but aren't going for serious styles? Like when you go grocery shopping or out for coffee...

I'm probably not the best person to answer that. My hair's short right now (but really thick), so if I don't want to take too much time, I just put it in pigtails. Straightening can be pretty quick, but it doesn't work on my hair right now.
Is your hair curly at all? My sister's hair has a bit of curl, and sometimes she'll use some gel that helps curls (or sometimes whipped egg whites!) and goes with a curly do with a few clips here and there. It always looks fab on her.
Sorry I'm not much help.

I usually put it in a ponytail :giggle:
It's wavy...if I put mousse or curling gel, supposedly I can make it look cute, but usually I end up playing with it too much and end up with FRIZZ!
What about french braids? Are they "so 90s"?

Mine is almost always pulled back in a pony, it's easy LOL... I like easy hairstyles though, and rarely fix my hair nice... I just don't have the time.

I don't have time to do my hair most days either. I just got it cut pretty short a week or so ago and love it. She cut it so that if I needed to let it air dry & go I could. It looks nicer if I take the time to dry it & straighten it, but I'm super clumsy with the hair dryer & a brush. lol I live in ponytails when my hair is too long for me.

i've got the most boring chin length bob ever - so i'm no help either :( i want to get a cute cut soon ... i'm really loving kherington's hair on so you think you can dance (if anyone watches that!) ... i think all i'd have to do is get some cute layers and bangs, but i don't have a good hairdresser right now so i'm nervous - LOL ...

oh - when my hair was longer (about shoulder length) i wore it in a casual 'french twist' a LOT - just twisted it up and attached with a sideways barrette - and i had a little curl that would hang down and cover most of the barrette - if that makes any sense? sometimes i'd add cute barrettes to the front for some interest. (nothing too cutesy - just cute - LOL) i'm also a big fan of thick headbands made from scarves ... or low ponytails with scarves tied in them.

I get in a hair rut too because my hair is long and very thick. I can't do french twists etc. because there is so much thickness wise.
I found this site a while back and it does have ideas for mid to longer hair. http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=main
I have thought that the french braid was 90's too and hadn't worn it like that for quite a few years except at home because it does keep everything nicely off my face. We had someone at the house a number of weeks ago doing some work and she was very attractive and hip. She was sporting a reverse french braid (where the braid is on the top and not tucked into the braid). I've been wearing mine like that a bit now :giggle: Now if I just had her 20 something body, looks and hip belt to go with it

I love my pony tails too! instead of gel or mousse, try one of the silicon based anti-frizz stuff - I love them for taming the frizz while still letting me style/curl/blowdry my hair (I only use it on the bottom 2/3 of my hair, I don't like it on the top or in my bangs.

I would looooove to get a pixie cut -- I'm so low maintenance these days that even 5 minutes on my hair irritates me! :)
If you can pull off a short cut, go for it!

I'm not at a point where I have to worry about my hair. I do color it, but keep it ultra short because 1, it's easier, and 2 I don't want to fuss. I leave it a bit longer in the bangs area, but not in my eyes longer and the sides & back are really, REALLY short, cut with the buzzer actually. When I don't want to put any styling into it and I think it's not looking its best, I throw on a baseball hat.
I still love the look of french braids. Sometimes I'm jealous of those who can just put in a bit of styling product and have those beautiful curls.

I am in the process of growing mine, it is a chin lengh bob right now, so all I do is straighten it. I have had very short pixie type cuts and really love them, and I know that I am going to cut it off again, besides why grow it if all you are going to do is put it in a pony tail anyway.
For a little curl, with ut much fuss, try the de-frizz stuff and then just put a difuser on your blow dryer, and then add a few bobby pins here and there, the messy, but good look

Thanks for the suggestions! The link for long-hair styles is awesome! :good:
I did short hair way-back-when and DH didn't like it. I hated growing it back out, too, so I'm happy keeping it around shoulder-length. :)
Wanna see just how short it was??

Mine is a short flip and it's growing out again - when it gets to the point where the ends won't curl then it's time to get it whacked - dh hates me cutting it, but it's a zillion degrees here and icky!!!!!!!!!!! I really like the new bob look with the shorter back - can't quite describe it - but my hair is super fine and thin, I don't have a lot of depth even with layers
