So as it turns out, the Dora the Explorer backpack Sophie picked out, is the most popular amongst the girls in her class... as in they ALL have the same one LOL... So in order to save us all some sanity, I want to do something to her backpack to make it noticeably unique... Since putting her name on the outside is a bit of a no-no...
I was thinking of maybe doing something with the straps, but not sure what...
Any Ideas???

you could stitch some ribbon bits to the straps, that would make it look kind of frilly.
You could do a few "mini layouts" of dd, print them out, laminate them and clip them to the zipper

I made a tag for my son's backpack that I laminated and then made into a keychain that I attached to his zipper. But - if you are the sewing type you could make some neat funky little 'sleeves' for the straps. I'm sure you could find some Dora-ish fabric - that would be cool!

I like the covering the straps idea - I was thinking in terms of like those covered straps that they are doing for the cameras....

We encourage the kids to have their names on the outside so it's easier for the teacher to see it too, but I can certainly understand reluctance to do so also!

HA! That is EXACTLY where the idea came from - scary how we think alike :laught16:

Hmmm Let's see how crafty I can get... Ill have to find some place to get fabric... Wal-mart here closed their fabric area :( not that they had a great selection, but it usually worked when I needed something :)

I would just get some ribbon and tie it to the part where you adjust the straps. Oh- and then tie some to the handle. I would cover everything in ribbon if I could. But I have boys so I can't.

I make a tag with one of my girl's favorite thing - monkey, USC logo or flowers - and then laminate it and use a little chain to add it to the zipper or any small area that I can put it on - like Ann said. I like it cuz when I come to get them from daycare after school I just have to look for the tag and I know which bag is theirs right away.
