Mari has me inspired with these notebooks

I don't have a Crop-o-dile, though. Anybody have any suggestions about what I could use to put the hole in for the ribbon?

I want to make some of these for teacher gifts for Christmas.

The standard hole punches would probably work for this (before the Crop A Dile, we had to use something):

The link is the biggest size, so if this is too big, there are two smaller holes. You can find this at almost any craft or office supply store.

a regular hole punch is fine if you're punching through individual sheets of paper/cs...but it definitely will not punch through an entire notebook (the cropodile is so strong, punches through my wood bits and cd's too!)

so if you want to use a whole notebook (like those small legal type pads that are bound at the top) I would call your local print shop, they should have an industrial hole puncher and you can have your pads assembled and mark where you want the holes punched and they can do it fast.

or just do individual sheets of paper that you can punch like 5 sheets at a time.

Ummmm... what's a cropodile? I know I gotta get out from under my rock more often - :)

It's some big industrial-sized hole punch thingie, Ann. :)

That's what I was afraid of Jen. You know, I bet that SOMEBODY in my circle of friends scraps. Lemme check on that and see. hmmm...

hmmm...you know, the more I think about it, the more I'm thinking I might just buy one. They're only like $45, right? I mean, if I can use it to make gift journals, etc., surely it would end up paying for itself.

lol. like my rationalizing? ;)

I was going to suggest breaking out the power tools to drill holes, but instead I'll enable you to get the Crop-a-Dile!!! If you're playing hybrid, you will not regret the investment. It cuts holes "like butter!!"

Actually, to further enable, you might be better off investing in a Big Bite. It's CAD's big brother, that will punch holes anywhere, as opposed to the ~1" depth restriction. The Big Bite is on my Christmas list.

I waited a while before I bought mine- I couldn't believe it was really that good. But then I got one on sale and tried it for my paper bag books and it was heaven!!!

I got the Big Bite!! I'm going to play with it later tonight! whooohooo!!

I figure that it'll save me money if I make little notebooks, etc., as part of teacher gifts and maybe Christmas or stocking gifts. Nice rationalization again, huh? lol

I cannot wait to see what you are making!!!

Ohhhhhhh you darn enablers! I'm going to check into that thingy! Can you use it for making holes for brads and grommets as well? Does it have different size settings?

That's what it is designed to do, it sets grommets as well (silently btw LOL) I have the original one and it does 2 sizes, not sure about the Big-Bite yet, still haven't picked that one up yet!

The CAD has 1/8" and 3/16" hole punches (and you can go up to an inch in), plus it has a number of settings for eyelets/grommets.

If you're going to get a crop-o-dile now I'd say get the big bite. They have the normal size one then the BIG BITE which will allow you to punch a hole 6" into a page which the original version will not allow you to do.

Joann.com has it as well as in store and Michael's has it in the store too. It's $40 so definitely save a coupon for it! It'll punch through tin pails, acrylic, chipboard, etc. It's amazing!

I read about punching in the middle of a 12" layout... that is nice! :) Watch it take forever to get a Michael's coupon now that there is something I want :) Thanks for the extra info Mikkel :)

i like the way you think...as a matter a fact, I think I need the big bite for the very same reason :)

ok, so is there a trick to making this thing work? I'm trying to make those little notebooks and put a hole through the pad o' paper and the hole won't go all the way through! ARGH!

I found the Big Bite today and then a 13" laminator jumped into my arms too :) My brain is spinning on the things I want to make... just need to get my kids clothes for consignment tagged so that I can play :)
