Dani and Cheryl were talking about Can't Buy Me Love in another thread here and got me thinking about old movies you love. Some of the old ones are so great - classics almost. Have you got a great movie that you love but it's a bit obscure, off beat or just plain old? Share it with me - I wanna watch something that isn't mainstream and would love some suggestions.

My fave old/crazy movie is Strange Brew (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=yZCI39NWZ5g) with the MacKenzie brothers. I love how it makes fun of Canadians and it's got a lot of beer in it as well - LOL

My very favorite movie is What's Up, Doc? It's HILARIOUS!!

I like a lot of older shows...WKRP, Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart...I'm so glad they're putting them on DVD now because I don't have cable so I can't watch them on TV Land :giggle:

I also love Meet Me In St. Louis with Judy Garland. I watch it pretty frequently. I also like Rebecca with Laurence Olivier. Funny Face and Breakfast at Tiffany's with Audrey Hepburn. Grease and Grease 2. Little Women with Elizabeth Taylor. Sixteen Candles . . . Breakfast Club . . . Pretty In Pink . . . that whole John Hughes film thing. I also love Muriel's Wedding, which has to be one of my favorite movies of all time. Dirty Dancing. Lots of Julia Roberts movies starting with Mystic Pizza to Pretty Woman to My Best Friend's Wedding. Hmmmm . . . need any more ideas? How obscure? There was this one movie I watched over and over when I was in middle school. It had Kristy McNichol in it and it was called The Pirate Movie. I actually bought the doggone thing online and watched it. It was SO weird to see it again ~ and totally didn't match up with the vivid images my imagination had conjured over the years. Hee, hee.

This is a total B movie but I love it - Love Potion #9 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102343/)with Sandra Bullock. You gotta see the monkey - it cracks me up every time when he attacks the cage his girl is in :)

I love old movies - Judy Garland, any Gidget Movie ever made and just about any musical out there. I am starting to get the girls in to the older movies because they are just bored with "their tv." So we have managed to watch Legally Blonde, Revenge of the Nerds, The Breakfast Club (with my oldest and which I kind of didn't recall some of the hmmmm moments in there), Ferris Bueller and then for a good mix I threw in the old "Yours, Mine, Ours" movie with Henry Fonda and Lucille Ball. The girls were stunned to find out that this was "their" Cheaper By The Dozen movie without Hillary Duff.

Oh and I love Sandra Bullock and we just get a kick out of the Miss Congeniality.....

I pull out What About Bob every once in a while... it's so funny and probably our most watched movie! I also like Mrs. Winterborn (sp?) with Rikki Lake - not really funny, just a good movie. Love The Breakfast Club even though I haven't seen it since I was in high school - looong ago!

It was on HBO and my dd was like "hey they copied the JC Penny's TV commercial" and then I had to point out that uh yeah that movie came first!:laught16:

Now that is funny! :laught16:

Gotta love Breakfast Club, being a child of the 80's, and another one that I love for a good laugh from that time is Real Genius (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089886/) with Val Kilmer - definitely an old crazy one & always cracks me up (but maybe I am just weird!!)

ETA: Oh Dana, I love The Commitments too - Haven't seen that in ages, but should again!

I could second most of Cheryl's suggestions.

Another of my fave "old" movies is the original "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" movie with Kristy McNichols (I think that's her) and Luke Perry. OMFreakin'Gosh that movie is SO funny! Hmmm...I need to dig that up!

My absolute favorite old movie is "The Great Escape" with Steve McQueen and James Garner.

*SO* many movies reference stuff from this movie...

I love the old musicals too.

I came up with a bunch of other older movies I love:

All Of Me (old Steve Martin/Lily Tomlin movie)
Yours, Mine and Ours (though the book is much, much better, and actually true! Don't get me started on how frustrating it is to see how Hollywood makes big families look :giggle:)
What About Bob?
Groundhog Day
Noises Off! (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105017/) (this one was always one of DH's family's favorites. It's got a HUGEly famous cast but I"d never heard of it! SOOOOO funny!)

Any musical...I'm a huge fan of Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire. Anything with either of them!!

Here's one that freaked me out as a kid. Have any of you seen/heard of "The Peanutbutter Solution"? It was supposedly billed as a comedy (Disney) but my brother and I had nightmares from it. We never saw how it ended, either, because we were so freaked out we turned it off. I googled it a year or two ago, and a bunch of other people had very similar experiences to us :giggle:

I also loved The Never Ending Story (but not the second one...that was was dumb)
Princess Bride (who doesn't love that movie)
The Last Starfighter (just watched it the other night and I still love it)
Heathers ( I loved Christian Slater)
Gleeming the Cube (remember my love for Christian Slater LOL)
