i struggled for a day for this. blogspot can be really tough to edit, but it can be done! LOL :) this really is a tricky question too, depending on the template you've chosen to use. could you put up the address of your blog and the header and maybe i can help a little more?

I use Blogspot but haven't yet made my own banner- just tweaked the code abit to get it how it is now. I am too interested in how to do this so I will be watching this for replies. :)

Each of blogspots templates are totally different from each other in terms what to edit to get your headers in the right spot. If you post which template you're using, I can let you know exactly how to edit your template to put your header in. I have a couple of test blogs just for this purpose : ) Let me know, I'll be happy to help if you and Meredith havent already gotten together!

Hey Robin! I am using the DOTS (white one). Can you help me??????? There are a few others I like if you don't have the code for this one. (Rounders 4 is one of them). TIA!!!

Hi Kathi

Dots and Rounders are two of the more complicated templates to tweak but it can be done. I noticed you are just starting your blog, if you create a header that you want at the top of your blog and give me the link to where it is hosted. I'll get you all set up and send you the template text you can just paste right into your template section. You need to pick one or the other though because those templates are totally different from each other and the same tweaking wont work for both.

Thank you! I can always pick an easier one if you want to direct me to one.
I'll have to work on what I want on Sunday. We are leaving on a camping trip Wed. morning and I won't have computer access until then. I'll send you a PM when I get back if that's okay! Thanks again!!!

I use the Minima template and have wondered the same thing. I am also new to the blog thing. ;)

Minima is an easy one! You want to scroll down to the <body> tag in your blogs template. Just under it you should see the following:

<div id="header">
<h1 id="blog-title">
<ItemPage><a href="<$BlogURL$>"></ItemPage>
<$BlogTitle$>
<ItemPage></a></ItemPage>
</h1>
<p id="description"><$BlogDescription$></p>
</div>

You want to edit it so it looks like this:

<div id="header">

<center><img src="http://yourbannersurlhere.com (http://yourbannersurlhere.com/)" /></center>

</div>

The above code should have YOUR banner photo with a small line all the way around the edge of it. If you would like a little space between the banner and the line you want to edit your code to look like this:

<div id="header">

<center><img hspace="8" vspace="8" src="http://yourbannerurlhere (http://yourbannerurlhere/)" /></center>

</div>

You can change the numbers in hspace and vspace to whatever suits your visual fancy, it is the number of pixels in the vertical and horozontal spacing.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I'll try to help however I can.

P.S. Have a nice trip Kathi, I'll look forward to your PM when you return.

I too am wondering about the size thing... and also, do you *need* to have the image hosted somewhere? the other photos I have, i just uploaded - do i not want to do that? do you have tips for an image hoster?

Thanks - you are a ton of help!

LOL...okay...anyone got tips on how to customize the header or background in typepad??? I've been working on my blog but I just can't seem to find where to edit that part. ???

WOW sorry that I missed these bumps a few days ago...

Again, the size of your header depends on which template you use since they all vary slightly in width. For the minima template we were discussing earlier in the thread, I believe you can make that one any size you want because the coding for the pin-line frame is written to wrap ANY image. For other templates, it's really hit or miss and sometimes you have to modify the exisiting header graphic with your own images to get them to blend...It can get very complex. I'll have to do some research and post the width of each template and get back to you. I will say that MOST of the banners I have done for other people's blogspot blogs have been 700 pixels wide by about 200-225 pixels high.

As for photohosting...for your header, YES you need to host it somewhere, you cant just upload the image via blogger. You can use flickr or photobucket to host your pics. I have my own webspace so I host all my own photos anyhow so I cant vouch for the above sites I just know they are commonly used.

And unfortunately I only know my way around blogger not typepad, but there are tons of scrappers who use typepad, so hopefully one of them will pop in and answer.

I also changed mine to that template and was able to add a header. I started adding pictures and then one day I couldnt add them, so I uploaded at Photobucket and then put the code directly in the posts. The layouts are a little larger that way, which I can live with, but all my bio/links/etc moved itself to the lower right hand side of the blog. WHY? Can anyone help me get that part back to the top? Is it somehow connected to my not being able to add photos anymore?

When that happened to me I adjusted the width of the pics by adding a width=#ofpixels to the image tag. Then my links moved back to the top right. Or you could just resize in photobucket. I think the images were so wide that it pushed everything down.

Just looked at your blog. My guess is that it's the Yahtzee pic that's causing the problem.

Mimi, Thanks so much! That was definitely the issue! I guess I resized it too small now, but at least I know! :)
