This made me laugh - I always used to say 'caysh', until dh started picking on me about it! In his little IT world, they all say 'cash'. I think it comes from a french word though so I guess that would be right.
I mostly say F.A.Q. although I refer to a common online haunt of dh's (when he's stuck on the ps3) as 'gamefak' (gamefaq). And Nigh-kon.
The other one that gets me is niche, I'd say 'neesh' but I have heard 'nitch', which just sounds funny to my ear!

You ask 'where an "I" sounds like "EE"'? I can tell you that in Germany an 'I' sounds like 'EE' *ROFLMBO* That's the reason why I say 'Neekon' *lol*
But I think if I were an english speaking woman I would say it in another way ;)
(it's the same with my family name: Blum is spoken like Bloom! *grin*)

Sharyn, I think the latin I is pronounced EE. That's how it is in Turkish, where they based their vowels on the latin :) (I love languages :giggle:)

Latin pronunciation for vowels (I think) is:
a:ah (car)
e: eh (way)
i: ee (queen)
o: oh (comb)
u: uh (true)
At least that's the way the vowels work in Turkish. Now, if I see a word that's new to me, my default is to pronounce it as if it were Turkish, because their language is written completely phonetically, not like English, that has more exceptions to the rule than words that follow the rules!
Does that make more sense?
