How much sleep do you *need* at night?

I'll be 33 in a couple weeks and I've found that I need more and more sleep! I don't know if it's because I'm working outside the home now or my age, but on most days my usual 7 hours isn't cutting it. :(

I can't take naps anymore because then I won't go to sleep when I need to. :giggle:

So what about you? How much sleep do you have to have?

i guess i 'need' seven - but i 'want' eight LOL ... i wish i could do well on 5 or 6 - i'd be way more productive!

Well, that depends on whether I run that day or not. If I run, I need a heck of a lot more sleep than I get. I'm quite happy to go to bed at 8:30, but of course I can't. If I run that day, I need at least 8 hrs. I like 9 hrs, though. My kids let me sleep until 7:00am (woot!), so I'm spoiled.

If I have a glass of wine before bed, I'm up all night. White is okay, but red is murder. I've been avoiding it lately so I can get more sleep (contrary to my facebook status the other night. Ignore that.).

I have also found that I can last longer (awake) and have more energy if I remember to take my vitamins and drink LOTS of water during the day when I have been running. Oh, and eat. Huh. Turns out that food is fuel! Who knew!?

Nikki, I'm 33 and I think that this whole needing sleep thing is probably normal.

I "need" 9, and pray for 8 these days. I'm making due on 7-8 a night, but am much less sleepy if I can get at least 8. But with a co-sleeper who likes his milk bar and forgets where I am a few times a night, I don't sleep through :giggle:
someday...

I need 7:30, but I can go with less for a couple weeks, when I get more and more stupid each day until I realize that my IQ is about -24 and I need to sleep, then everything is fine! LOL

I'm sure I'm sleep deprived. I work best late at night so I find myself staying up until 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning. I was never a night owl growing up but I sure am one now. Then my pets wake me up around 7:00 and so I'm up with them then go back to bed for another hour or two. Then sometimes I think my body says "ENOUGH" and I sleep until 10:30 or 11:00. I really need a schedule! Being self-employed and childless allows me to write my own rules. :-)

Uh I know I am sleep deprived... and I don't have babies or toddlers demanding my attention... I have been waking at least three times a night... some for only short periods but others an hour or two... the "insert not nice word here" over the road with a badly tuned bike that leaves at 1.30am for work each day is killing my sleep...

needless to say I don't like it! 8 hours or more of uninterupted sleep would be grand... I miss my 12 hours sleep pattern that I had when I was working long shifts...

I've been needing more sleep as I get older too--I thought it was supposed to be the contrary! I *need* 4, and used to be able to get away with 5 very consistently. But I've been sleeping almost 7 sometimes--eek! Really cuts into my productivity...

I get about 6 hours sleep a night. My body just wakes up at 5.30am and I can't sleep in. I feel tired come evening though, but never seem to make it to bed before 10.30pm. By the time I get to sleep it's 11-11.30pm. Saying that though, I had a 2 hour sleep after church yesterday and felt heaps better.

yip, that's me :) well, the toddler wakes me at about 07:30-ish and then I nap when he naps in the afternoon, which is about an hour and a half and then I'm good to go again :) I KNOW my body clock is completely out though, as I sit here it's 23:00, I just downloaded a kit to work with and the ideas are flowing, lol! :D I'd LOVE to get about 6/7 hours, I make do with about 5 though :) I tend to crash every 7 days or so, where my body just says no more, those nights, I go to bed VERY early! feel like a new person the next day ;)

I need about 8 hours, I usually get between 7.5 and 8, so no problems here! I'm lucky that the only time I had problems with sleep is when I was pregnant and of course when DS was an infant!

lol, then I guess I'm ok... ;)

I just feel sooooooo tired and this week I have early days, having to be at work at 5 AM.

blah. I'll have to be in bed by 8. I NEVER go to bed that early and that's still only about 7 hours b/c I'll have to be up by 3!

I usually run on four or five but the last week or two I could easily sleep ten or more a night. Just so tired all the time lately!

Good heavens Heather only 4 or 5 hours sleep... you would have to colour me really grumpy if that was me... I love my sleep I just need to get it out of this interupted pattern its in at the moment!!!!

That is making me just a tad on the prickly side at the moment...

I can tell if I have been eating too much sugar I have a really hard time waking up in the morning. I saw a report once on TV about how yeast can build up in your system and is a total drain and makes you have no energy...I mean really bad like you feel like you've been drugged. If I start feeling like that I focus on getting more protein and healthy snacks. I'm such a sugar addict though it's really hard for me and I can easily fall back on my theatre sized boxes of Nerds, Hot Tamales, Bottle Caps, Good and Plenty......

I think I get about 6 a night but would love 8!! But DH is a night owl and kids are early birds so I kind of get stuck in the middle. I would love a nap but then I can't sleep at night. So I just trudge along and take what I can get.

My minimum for *need* is 8. I love to get a little more when I can. But I do try to get a little cat nap in every day for 20 to 30 minutes.

That's me! I wish I could live on 5 or 6... but I really want more like 8 or 9.

Kelleigh! :vino: You and that glass of wine always crack me up!

That is very interesting, Donna. I read the book "The Yeast Connection" a long time ago and ever since then, I've been really aware of how sugar affects me (like Smarties or Jelly Beans--ugh! Instant reactions). :P But I had not heard about this before... I prefer to try to stick to a South Beach diet as it is (heavy on the veggies and eggs for breakfast, no candy, etc.) because I just know that sugar and I have issues. But I never thought about it making me feel like crud in the morning, too... because late at night is when I really start hunting out sugary things. Hmm...
