View Full Version : Exercise?

Anyone here want to start holding each other accountable to exercise? I'm sure we're all in different places with it, but I'd like to get better about doing it, and if I know I need to come in and say "nope, didn't do anything today" I'll be more likely to do it :giggle:
So how about it? Anyone??

Yup, I'm feeling SO flabby. I'm ready to do something about it, but never want to actually do it!!

Count me in...I was so good last week did 30 minutes each morning but I am feeling so blah at the moment and have allergies that just make me feel bleary and tired!

I'm in. I was religious about doing the 30 minute shred every morning, but then woke up with headaches for a week, so didn't exercise, and the following week I was just plain unmotivated. I'm back into exercising now though. Did the Shred yesterday (and really struggled to be honest), and went for an hour long walk today.

I'm in! DS is a problem, because there's no babysitting. =( He *was* going to an after-school program until he had a series of tantrums, and now doesn't want to go back... *sigh* I didn't do anything today, but I did the treadmill 2 days ago! *lol*

that's a lot more than I did! you go girl!
I have some work to do tonight but tomorrow evening I am either going for a walk (and I also say tomorrow because my 16 y/o isn't home tonight to go with me) or some other heart raising exercise.

oh I'm SO in!!! starting Sunday evening (i realised that's the only time it's gonna happen, evenings that is) I'm walking. Gonna start with 30 minutes, increase from there :) I'll check in and let you knwo how it's going

I did 5 lunges (each side) today. it's a start :good:
My biggest goal is to get core exercises in there (especially planks). I want my tummy to look better :D But I'd like to tone up other areas too (thus the lunges) :D

I'm in. I had thought to myself that I'd be back in shape before Lily's second birthday. Um, that's July 1st. I've been beating myself up over it just a bit - over wasted time and lack of motivation, but I'm just defeating myself. I want to be in a better place physically come July 1st, and I'll just go from there :)
Looking forward to the motivation & support! :D

I'm in! I really want to exercise everyday (except when I'm at the hospital for my IIU treatement check up, I'd have to get up reeeeeaaaaaaally too early!). Starting tomorrow I'll workout at least 20 minutes every morning (indoor bike or outside walk). Hold me accountable!

I try to get to the gym for Radical Fitness classes Mon, Tues and Wed. Fridays are my yoga day. Plus I try to walk to the gym and grocery stores when the weather is good.
I don't exercise every day, but I'm getting closer and closer to my 100 hours new year resolution!
Count me in!

05-15-2010, 10:16 PM
That's fantastic, Holly! Good for you :D
And Chloe, I like your goal. We'll definitely help :good:
Today, I, uh....:blush. I know! I exercised my camera's muscles :rotfl: and my creativity as I tried to get fun pictures  And I walked around Kohl's while buying new dresses for Jasmine :giggle:
My goals (to be more concrete) are:
~planks every day (30 seconds, 2x to start)
~either lunges or pushups every day
~I should do something cardio too...

I must be very pampered lol but with hubby immobile with his broken foot I actually mowed the lawn front and back for the first time ever in my life! (I am actually proud of myself...didn't do a too bad job!) So that has been the sum of my exercise this weekend (if you exclude vacuuming and sweeping the floors twice a day...why over weekends does the house just fall apart?) I am hoping I will have the oomph to start my 20 minute session with the Shred on Monday!

I'm in!! Started last week with Jonathon's (flylady exercise guy) 12 week fitness challenge. So being here accountable with you guys - especially now I have told you:shock: - should help.
Jumping in the deep end I am doing one of his sessions each day, plus at least half hour wii fit. Had two rest days on Thursday and Friday (though we were out in the heat working at the A regionals swimming championships)
Also started bowling 2-3 times a week, and this morning I hit the pool. Only managed 10 laps over half hour though.
Plus the odd mall walk. We have this big mall here that is kind of oval around. It is airconditioned and in our current 40 - 45 celcius temps it is the perfect place to go walk for a couple of hours. We have to hoof it sometimes to make it to "tea" at starbucks for prayer time.
(it's ok - I am not a big shopper so the stores are on a little distraction.)
Right now though I am exhausted from all this typing so I am going to have a nap!

I walked for 20 minutes today! Yay!!
Charla
05-16-2010, 09:44 AM
That's fantastic, Sharyn!! :D
Mari, I've never mowed either, so you're not the only pampered one ;)
Today we're planning on going to a cool historic place (from the War of 1812) so I'll put on my pedometer to see how much we walk. And it's not flat, either. I think Hudson's old enough that we'll likely take the wagon? and not carry him in the Moby the whole time, but if I decide to put him in the Moby I'll get a serious workout!! :giggle:

I'm in. Did quite a lot this last week what with all the walking (layouts coming soon :)) in the hills that we did. I'm quite proud of myself because I managed a 12 mile walk along a ridge which included England's 2nd highest mountain :yeshuh:.
No exercise today other than some frenzied unpacking, cleaning and grocery but little one is at playschool tomorrow so I'm off for a run in the morning. Need to work out a route but I'm aiming for about 6 miles. I doubt I'll manage it without some walk breaks but I'm working on that :)

I did the Shred this morning, and tried a new 15 minute Pilates intro afterwards (which was harder than I expected to be honest).

I am tired today - so perhaps just the treadmill and some wii fit plus. We'll see. I think that swim really did me in yesterday so will be waiting a while till I get back into the swimming. It drops my blood pressure for some reason.

:My alarm clock went off this morning and gave me a heck of a fright. I don't use an alarm in the mornings - I just wake up without one - so I guess Elisa was playing around with it yesterday.
I looked at the time and it said 6am. OK. I'm awake now - I'll go do the Shred and some pilates. Did that, came back upstairs wondering why it was still so dark. Looked at the clock on the phone by my bed (the one I USUALLY always check) and it said 6.08am. ROFL! Elisa had adjusted the TIME of the alarm clock an hour forward. I'd gotten up at 5am! :blink
I guess it worked out in the end. I got my exercises done, was able to shower AND check the forums before the girls got up at 7.15am.

05-17-2010, 06:01 AM
Lol - Jacinda, glad that didn't happen to me!
I got woken up by my little one wandering in for a cuddle, I was just about to tell her to go back to bed when the alarm went off.
Anyway, I did a short run today (should clarify that the 6 mile run I was talking about is actually what I'm aiming for over the next month!), just about 2 and a half miles but I was really struggling with cramps in my calves - this usually happens after a week's walking so hopefully will be better by my next run on Wednesday.
I really need to drag myself to the gym. Hate the place but I'm paying for it so I should use it! I'm sure the pilates class is booked up as always though :(

I went to my Zumba class today. Its an aerobic dance and fitness class to some Latin jam tunes. I go to one on both Mon and Wed with different teachers. The Monday teacher LOVES squats and huge motion. The Wed teacher is more into Latin dance moves. Just after the 8 minute warm-up routine I could barely walk to get a drink. But its a ton of fun!
I have at least 30 different workout videos in my home collection (dance, yoga, pilates, etc) but I just don't keep doing them -- get bored without the interaction. So a club membership was what I asked from DH as a Christmas gift last year. The goal is 4 kg this year and I'm down 2kg. Half way through the year, half way to my goal. Yipee!

Over the weekend I rented a couple movies so rather than drive them back to the RedBox dispenser at Walgreens, I walked and jogged them back. It's about 12 blocks one way. My town is pretty hilly too so it was a fun work out.
I haven't been keeping up with this thread but I just read the "I've never mowed before" comments. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Man. What a lucky couple of chicks you are. I don't know when I HAVEN'T mowed. I have a nice new push mower now. I really would prefer that to a riding mower. (My yard is too teeny for a riding mower anyway) I just like to get some exercise in whenever I can. I'm within walking distance to my bank, the post office and the electric company so I look forward to doing a lot of errand walking.

05-17-2010, 01:08 PM
LOL. Donna you sound like me - my dad had me mowing the lawn at 10yo. And we lived on a huge corner let. Took forever.
Well I managed the Interval 3 training that I was supposed to do (I think about 1.5 or a touch more miles). Then later I did 43 mins on the wii fit plus. My golf swing is getting pretty good :teehee:
Had a bath and thought that was it for the day.
But no - went out in the garden and after half an hour's work decided I needed to prepare a bed for my sweet corn seedlings. Which meant 1/2 hour solid of raking, and then getting the bed ready. Now I need another shower. Mind you at 8pm here it is like 35 celcius and humid.
Tomorrow morning those little suckers are going in.

Wow! Everyone is doing great! Once we start thinking about it, just about any errand can become a mini workout. Gardening is hard work and walking to our errands instead of hopping in the car.
Now that our weather is nicer I'm going to be walking 10 min to the gym instead of a 3 min car drive (only on bad weather days).
:dancinggirl:Today is my Radical Megadanz day. Its a hoot of fun too. When I was in my 20s I loved going dancing and getting my groove on. :dance:At the time I thought I was a pretty good dancer. :giggle: But now that I'm taking these "dance / exercise" classes I'm shocked to find out how terribly uncoordinated I am! Its hard putting arms and legs together when its choreographed and I'm not just freely flailing about!:imokay:

Speaking of mowing...I just have to throw this in. When I was a little girl, probably about seven, my dad was mowing the yard and I went out and tried to ask him if I could help but he couldn't hear me over the mower. I ran back inside and wrote him a note and took it out to him. I wish I still had it. It was in our phone book for the longest time. It said "Can I moe the lond a little bit." Now that's what we say in our family just for fun. My dad let me walk in front of him and he helped me push. :)

My legs are SOOOO sore from the last 2 days of The Shred. I couldn't even do the split jumps yesterday - I thought I was going to tear a muscle or something - so today I'm going to either just go for a walk, or find some arm exercises to do. We'll have to see - Brooke was unwell yesterday, and although she did sleep through the night I'm not sure if she'll be going to school today or not. If she stays home I can't go for a walk.

I did one more Zumba class today and that's all I can do at the club this week. Thurs and Fri both I have to work so those days are out. This weekend is the school's track and field day event so looks like Monday before I can get any organized workout again. I'm tired anyway....:smoosh:

I'm terrible at dancey aerobics as well. I like spin and things like Body Pump or Pilates where I can follow what's going on :)
Did a 3 mile run this morning. It was really hard and my knee was hurting (I think I hurt it on my holiday :(). But anyway, I did it. I'm hopefully going to go again on Friday once dh gets home from work and we'll either go walking or cycling on Saturday. And I should do some gardening I suppose, too :)
Jacinda - are you planning in rest days? Or at least active recovery like walking or swimming, something low-impact to give your legs a break! I've heard a lot about this Shred. Don't know if its available here though, I'll check it out when my gym membership is up :)

Goal for today is some lunges. I'll report back when I've done them :)

man, I forgot to check in!! walked the last two evenings, about 20 minutes  and this afternoon realised that I missed a whole day this week, I do that here, with Friday being our off day. SO, tonight I have to go shop, thank goodness for shops that stay open till 23:00!! And why is it so important you may ask? well, because on Thursday evening, we're having some international guests for a proper South African braai!! I need to prepare LOADS of stuff!! Will get my workout with cleaning the house tomorrow

Oooh - I like a good Braai! And you are only 40 mins plane ride away. You may just have to hide the Boerewors as I am partial to that stuff. :teehee:
Donna what a wonderful memory!
So yesterday I had food poisoning or something. Spent the day on the couch feeling very very unwell. But let's not go back there.
Today I went bowling and actually did all right. Played three games too. A few sore muscles in one leg and have to watch the shoulder. Then just now I did a 32 minute interval on the treadmill including about 1/2 a mile jog/running/stumbling.
Plus the kids are calling me to do the wii fit. Guess I will be back a bit later.
One nice thing - Since I started on Monday (10days ago) I have lost 4.4 pounds. It will be nice when it shows though..lol
I love how everyone is finding ways to move - which is probably the key for us keyboard types.

No excuse, bring the kids, ok, in winter, 'cause I don't have enough space in the house, but in winter we can pitch a tent in the garden for them  Sharyn, I've been meaning to ask, can you get pork at all? Spinney's now make a boerewors WITH pork here, it's friggen awesome :)

OOOHHHh lamb chops are my favourite!!! Do you make that banana desert that has condensed milk in it?
Ha Marianne - think we need to start a new thread? Nope - no pork here nor that hard stuff people drink. Now I could drive down it's only about a 12 - 15 hour drive. Just one problem - I might get arrested. Women can't drive here either.
Ok so back on topic. It is 7.3o am here now and I have been outside gardening for nearly two hours. It is about 36 celcius already (96.8 f) and I am dripping. Does that count as a workout?
Come on Jacinda - still time today, you can do it. Even if it is just a 10 min walk. Take the girls for a nature stroll.

05-20-2010, 07:06 AM
LOL Sharyn - today was a no go I'm afraid. The weather was very cold and very wet today, so there was no chance of getting outside. Elisa had swimming this morning, then we did the grocery shopping. I could have worked out while she napped, but I was hungry, so had lunch instead. I never feel like working out after eating. By the time she woke it was time to get Brooke from school. Brooke then had homework to do and swimming lessons in the next suburb, and by the time we got home from that it was dinner time, stories, and straight into bed for both girls.
They're off to my parents tomorrow afternoon though (for the whole weekend, wooohoo!), so I have no excuse, and every opportunity to get some exercise done.

Congrats to all the exercisers, great job ladies! I love the fun workouts (lighthouse, gardening)!
I've been feeling sick since Tuesday evening and I had the IUI this morning, so I probably won't work out until I find out if it worked or not. I know it's stupid, but I'm scared to do something wrong that could compromise a starting pregnancy, especially when it's so hard to get pregnant for me! Anyway, I'll try to take it easy, relax, rest, and hope!
