On Sunday, Jasmine asked DH why he got presents, since it wasn't his birthday or Christmas. When he told her it was because it was Father's Day, she decided there should be a Jasmine Day.
And since she was only 4 lessons short of finishing "Teach Your Child To Read in 100 Easy Lessons," we decided that when she finished, we'd give her a Jasmine Day.

It will be Friday (possibly Thursday, but likely Friday). So I only have a few days to prepare.

Here's what I've come up with so far.

~plates, napkins, cups that say "C is for Crocodile" etc.
~cutout cookies in the shape of letters
~Alphabet decorations (I'm thinking of doing something like this (http://www.thedigichick.com/shop/product.php?productid=21037) with each letter, and cutouts from magazines of words starting with each letter. There's school for the week!!)
~alphabet pasta salad

Anything else? It will very possibly just be the 5 of us, so we may not be able to do games or anything unless they're simple and for a very small group. I'm hoping my mom and siblings can come, but I'm not holding out much hope for that.

How about a card? She'll be expecting a card and a little pressie won't she? You're such a good Mum Charla.

Love this idea!!
What about an alphabet scavenger hunt all around the house? If you didn't want her to find 26 things, you could create some cards with one letter on each and give her a couple.

Alphabet matching game:

That's all I can think of for now......

oooh! Or does she have a little camera that she can use? You could go on an alphabet safari (outside, preferably, if the weather cooperates) and take pics of one thing for each letter. You might want to plan ahead a bit for the hard letters and stack the decks in your favor. ;)

Or one of my favorite memories from my childhood was the first time we went to the theater to see a movie (Jungle Book!). My parents didn't tell us where we were going; we had to solve clues that ended up taking us all over town. One stop was Dairy Queen for some ice cream. The final thing was to go to the movie. :D

Those are awesome ideas!! I love the idea of having her get out and use her camera. They've started playing the "Alphabet game" in the car, but using the camera is a MUCH more special way to do it. (and I can get pictures of her getting pictures ;) )

I just found out that my mom and siblings can't make it. I haven't told Jasmine yet (she's still sleeping) but I'm dreading telling her. She's going to be pretty disappointed. :( So I guess we'll just make it a family fun day of alphabet joys, to celebrate that she's reading!! And it's so exciting, because she really is reading. She reads all the words wherever we are now! She still has a lot of rules to learn (English is such a ridiculous language!) but she's getting there!

Wow Charla - how old is Jasmine, that she is already reading the words when you are out-and-about?
