September 2011 Desktop Challenge
Happy September 1st! It's that time of year again! SCHOOL TIME! I'm so excited about my daughter starting the 3rd grade! (Freedom is great, isn't it?)
I know we all do our best to be organized. In the real world I lack some skills when it comes to keeping things tidy.. on my computer, however I am the epitome of tidy when it comes to my computer desktop!
I can not go a month with the same background. I have to have a calendar on it.. it has to match the season.. it has to be meaningful. I suppose we all have our quirks and this one is mine!
The Challenge ::
This month let's all try to get organized! How, you might ask? Do you have zillions of icons literring your desktop? Start off by trying to group them. For example I have all my internet icons in one row. All of my digital art icons in another row. My basic computer icons in yet antoher row. From time to time I even make a "junk folder" for stuff I just haven't organized yet but plan to.
How to create a Desktop Background ::
The first thing you need to do is find out your screen resolution. To find this out just follow the directions below::
Windows 7 > Start > Control Panel > Apperance and Personalization > Display > Screen Resolution
There it will say something like Resolution :: 1280x720 Mine is 1920x1080
Mac > System Preferences > Displays > Resolutions
There should be a list there of resolution sizes.
I learned a little trick. If you hit the PrtScn button on your keyboard then open up your image editing program (I use PS CS5) then go to File > New it will have the size right there. (be sure to switch the dpi to 300 since we use high res graphics) I make a new file then paste and of course it pastes my current desktop on there. I use dual-moniters so this is helpful for me. My resolution then would be 3840x1080.
So basically you can create a new layer and start with your own clean slate! Scap a desktop layout! It can be anything! I'm choosing a back to school theme for mine.

As you can see I have a space for my icons to be organized in. I have my calendar where I can clearly see it.. and a fun LO that I can enjoy for the rest of the month!
I made a little freebie for you all to use for your desktops. It's just four little calendar stamps for the month of September. I used a few different fonts for whatever style you might scrap.
