Welcome to the Peek-a-Boo Technique Challenge!
THE CHALLENGE
This challenge is inspired by paper punches. Since we’ll be working with digital paper, it only seems fit that we’ll be using digital paper punches. This is such a fun technique to use with your digital projects because it enhances the layers of your layout.
For this challenge, you will need to “punch” holes in your layout. I want to see at least 2 holes.
One must be in one of your background papers.
Another should be in an element or photo
HOW-TO
There are many ways to achieve this look depending on what software you use. Here are the steps I took in Photoshop to “punch” the leaves in my paper on the layout below:
First create a new layer and added the shape using the brush tool (you can also use your shape tool, text, or any object on your page).
Next, select the area outside the shape using the magic wand tool, then invert the selection so that the area of the shape is selected.
Make sure to select the layer you want to delete and then hit the delete key.
Hide or delete the original layer containing your shape.
Make sure to add a drop shadow to help your layers stand out!
SAMPLE LAYOUTS
Here’s a sample layout I created. I punched a series of leaves in the background paper and also the date “2004” in the main photo.

Here’s the fine print:
You must use at least 75% Digichick Goodies on your layout to qualify for points.

(Feel free to use our open gallery here (http://www.thedigichick.com/gallery/) at the Digichick if you need a place to upload your layout. We even have a spot just for challenge entries (http://www.thedigichick.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=509)!)
You will earn 1 Point for participating in this challenge.
