I use a Sony CyberShot digital! I love it..even though it's old.

The one I used the most is a Canon 10D thought about upgrading to the 20 but just can't justify it yet. I need to play more with mine as it is. I just don't have many willing subjects.

Oh... I would LOVE to have a Rebel... but I'm so torn. I have a wonderful Minolta STsi 35mm with a couple different lenses that I pretty much now only use for sight seeing. I mostly use my Cannon Power Shot A70. I'm ready for an upgrade though, so have just starting looking around at digis.

Any suggestions on a great, high pixle, compact camera?

Jane

I envy all of you. I won't even tell. I'll just embarrass myself.
Quick question though.. How complicated are the better cameras such as the "Rebel" ?

holly
06-13-2005, 09:23 AM
Jane, they can be a little more complicated, but once you learn a "few" things about them they are MAGNIFICENT!

I'm taking a class online from MLK Studios for SLR cameras. It's explaining a lot to me!

Honstley ready a few books and my manual helped me with my rebel. I would like to take a class or two though (okay i wanna go back to school and study it!) The only online place I've heard of is Better photo....are there more?

holly

www.mlkstudios.com - if you mention you heard it from ilovephotography.com then you can get $50 returned to you. I am on week 1 now and love it!

So Holly, so far, would you say it's 'worth it'? I would LOVE to go the local J.C to learn photog but it's film. (Which I wouldn't mind...) My sis took it her second year (I think) and she took some amazing photos for it. I've been getting frustrated with my photos lately b/c I know that I could take better photos but am not good AT ALL with manual settings! :(
I've taken LOTS of portraits in the last couple of weeks with the end of the yr and grad portraits but I was really disappointed wiht my results. I NEED LIGHTING! lol! I found a lighting website that offers classes and I'm really tempted to do those. (Of course after I come up with the money to buy the lights first, lol!) I'll have to share the link when I get home to my pc... (I'm on my laptop in a hotel room and don't have the link in my faves here...) I'll also show you some of the pics I did. (Those are on my home pc as well...) Anyway... enough rambling... lol! OH! I use the CANON DIGI REBEL... and I do love it! (But I do want to get a smaller cam for my purse for those quickie shots...)

Well, this course is for both film and digital. But, just like graphic design, I think it's important to understand how things used to be done through hand paste-ups and not the complete computer route. So, it's good to understand the film part of it. But, things like camera settings and manual, I LOVE it!

EXACTLY! (Which is why I try to convince my 'clients' to let me do outdoor shots, lol!)

I considered the Rebel, but for what I wanted, I couldn't justify the the bulkiness and especially the price - we pay almost double for it here. I essentially wanted a camera with handbag portability, high MPs, good quality lens, good battery life and a quick startup time so I didn't miss important photos.

I ended up choosing the Sony P200 and I absolutely LOVE it! It has all of the above, I got it over a month ago and only just recharged the battery, and as a bonus, it's sleek and downright sexy! :D

i recently got the DRebel XT, and I love it. I used to have a Nikon 4300, and it took good photos, but the commands were not intuitive, were layers deep, and the lag will kill ya!

I do take better photos with the XT.

I have an Olympus C-740. It has a 10x optical zoom, which is what I wanted it for. We take a lot of action photography (sports events) and needed a camera that could get us closer to the action. I'd LOVE to get a Digital Rebel, but it's just not in the budget this year. The great thing is, when I do finally upgrade to the Digital SLR, we have a Canon 35mm film camera with a couple great lenses, so I won't have that expense.

My DH bought me the DRebel for my birthday/anniversay(10th!)/Mother's Day present. I am having fun playing with it! I have a lot to learn still. We have a film reb and a digi Nikon Cool Pix from before. I love that with the dreb, I have more control with AV mode for that cool look and that I can delete those bad shots instead of finding them after they've been developed. I also need to learn better adjustments for those indoor shots - too dark w/o flash and too light with flash! Thank goodness for PS! LOL!

I have a DRebel w/ a 28/300 lens. I have had mine for overa a year and love it.

I thought of going to the new 8MP, but I am going to wait until the 10 MP comes out in 2007.

I've got a Nikon Coolpix 5200 and I really love it. It's small enough for me to take EVERYWHERE so I never miss a photo op. The other moms are always jealous when I whip out the camera and they don't have one! I guess someday I'll switch from the point and shoot but for now, my Nikon is all I need.

Becky ... I was film-only until a few months ago. So do you just print out the pics and scan them in? What type of scanner do you use? I've got so many heritage photos that I'm wearing out my scanner and want to upgrade soon.

I have a Canon Powershot that I love! Its a greater beginner, as well as more advanced camera. I even bought a telephot lens to put on it. If you are looking for a digi camera under $300, I would highly recommend it.

i also have the d-rebel and i love it. it's my first slr and i don't know much about the manual settings, but it is so easy to play with it 'cos it's digital and i am not wasting film on those bad shots!! i've also got a canon digital elph which is pretty ancient now, but goes everywhere with me for those quick shots!

Let me start off by saying that I'm as SO jealous of all you D Rebel owners  lol! I have a Sony Cyber Shot, it's old but I've learned to take some pretty okay pictures with it. Deep down inside I am secretly wanting it to break, so I can upgrade and get the camera of my dreams, lol. Maybe I should just give it the baby and see what she can do. YOu can't get mad at a a baby can you, lol? J/K.

I have a Nikon N55 film camera but it's in the shop - again. 2nd time in a year.... Actually, I only put one roll of film through it when I got it back and it broke again! And I LOVE this camera!!!

So, DH bought me a new digital. A Fuji Finepix something or the other. I think it's the S3100. Not real happy with it but that's probably because I just wanted a little pocket digital (the Nikon Coolpix 5600). There was only a $20 difference but he liked the Fuji because it was bigger. So, I figure I get the film fixed and hand him the digital and he can take pics with it... LOL!

I have an Olympus D-550. It's pretty ancient, but it takes amazing pictures! I have been asked many times what camera I use. Ppl think I must be using a top of the line camera, but it's not. I love it and the only thing I would change is the optical zoom. I would love to have the 10x optical.

Robyn - Usually I just scan the pictures I want and use them that way. I've got an HP Scanjet scanner that does a pretty decent job. I'd really like to invest in a nicer scanner, though, since I don't see myself buying a digital SLR anytime soon.

Sometimes I will have my photos developed onto a CD - that makes creating digital pages a snap as well.

Thanks so much for sharing what you have... I've been thinking about getting a new camera and have had such a hard time deciding. The ones I was considering were Nikon D70, Nikon D70s, Canon EOS 20D, Canon Digital Rebel XT. I think that even though I currently own a Nikon (Coolpix 880 - about 4+ years old - with a battery door issue that's getting annoying - and I don't want to be without a camera for the 6 weeks they quoted me on fixing it) I will probably switch to a Canon because of the education on their site and rave reviews over at dpreview.com (and now the icing on the cake - everyone here). Thanks for helping to narrow it down.

Jane, don't be embarrassed...I don't have one of the popular cameras either! LOL!

I have a Fujifilm FinePix D602Z and I love it. This is our first digital camera too. We've had it for almost 3 years. Someday maybe I'll have a Rebel, but with 2 in diapers and 1 eating formual and baby food...well, you know where all our money is going!

Jane

Ok ,Thanks Keela!
I have to laugh cuz I also have a Fuji FinePix! I blame it on my husband. I told him two years ago at Christmas that all I wanted was a digital camera. That is what he bought for me. It doesn't even have any optical zoom at all!! IT's a meezly 2 megapixal! Gosh! What's a girl to say? "Gee, Thanks Honey." :(

So now I'm searching for a new one that is easy for me to learn. I'm getting so confused!

I would love to get a drebel but I can't justify spending $1500 on a camera with me being in college. When I switched to digital i started out with a sony Fd100 I believe. It was great for still pictures but not action. Last Feb I got a new Kodak DX7590 and I love it! It takes great action shots, has 10x and 5mp. The pictures turn out great! So until I can afford a drebel this is my camera of choice!

I have an Olympus C-750. I like that it has all the built in settings, and I can still play with the manual settings, too. There was a time when I would have said that I loved it, but now that I've had it for almost 3 years I'm ready for something else. My Olympus is so aggrevatingly S-L-O-W!

I actually use two cameras. In June I bought an Olympus C-765 Ultra Zoom. It has 10x zoom and manual settings and takes beautiful pictures. But then in August or September I was presented with a deal I couldn't refuse on the Digital REbel so now I have that too. I still use the olympus for it's zoom as I haven't been able to afford any new lenses for the rebel yet. I am really hoping santa is good to me in that department this year. But really, for the money that little olympus kicks butt, rofl.

I use an Olympus C-7000 7.1 mpxl 5x optical zoom 30x seamless zoom and I love it! It takes great photos and I am happy with the zoom results. But I am sooo wanting a dRebel and am hoping to have one in the next year.

I have just upgraded from Casio Exilim S-100 to Casio Exilim S-500, I just love the size of this camera, not bigger than a credit card. Okay, it lacks a more powerful zoom but as for the rest, I am not doing too bad. I was saving up for a Canon 350D (Rebel XT) but with all the new bridge cameras coming out, I am not so sure anymore.... Tough choice because too much choice !!!
