May 2012 :: Desktop Challenge

I'm not sure about you guys but with the year almost half-over I tend to find myself getting into slumps. One of these slumps is a scrapping slump. Sometimes it is extremely hard to find inspiration. One of my biggest sources of inspiration is right here at TDC! And that is our wonderful gallery! (http://www.thedigichick.com/gallery/). This week I was looking through some of my favorites for inspiration and found this lovely layout.

http://www.thedigichick.com/gallery/data/500/fieldtrip1.jpg (http://www.thedigichick.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=128936&title=fieldtrip&cat=500)

I decided to take this layout as inspiration for my desktop. This is what I came up with!

The Challenge

Pick your favorite LO from the gallery.. your own or someone elses and use it as inspiration for your desktop. When you are done link back your desktop and the layout you've lifted to make your desktop look amazing. Feel free to lift your own work.

The Kit

I used the BEAUTIFUL TDC Collab for May - Roots and Wings (http://www.thedigichick.com/shop/Roots-and-Wings.html) for this desktop. I love how you still get that feel of spring. The colors are really lovely and there are so many beautiful elements and papers to work with! Be sure to check it out! (http://www.thedigichick.com/shop/Roots-and-Wings.html)

A side note

Next month we will have a freebie with the desktops again. This month I was a bit busy! I'm sorry ladies!

How to create a Desktop Background ::

The first thing you need to do is find out your screen resolution. To find this out just follow the directions below::

Windows 7 > Start > Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Display > Screen Resolution

There it will say something like Resolution :: 1280x720 Mine is 1920x1080

Mac > System Preferences > Displays > Resolutions

There should be a list there of resolution sizes.

I learned a little trick. If you hit the PrtScn button on your keyboard then open up your image editing program (I use PS CS5) then go to File > New it will have the size right there. (be sure to switch the dpi to 300 since we use high res graphics) I make a new file then paste and of course it pastes my current desktop on there. I use dual-monitors so this is helpful for me. My resolution then would be 3840x1080.

So basically you can create a new layer and start with your own clean slate! Scrap a desktop layout! It can be anything!

Here’s the fine print:

You must use at least 75% Digichick Goodies on your layout to qualify for points.

When you’ve finished your layout, come back to this post and leave a comment with a link to your layout. (Feel free to use our open gallery (http://www.thedigichick.com/gallery/) here at the Digichick if you need a place to upload your layout. We even have a spot just for challenge entries! (http://www.thedigichick.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=509))

You will earn 1 Point for participating in this challenge.

For more information about our Chickie Points System, please see this thread here (http://www.thedigichick.com/forums/showthread.php?34471-Chickie-Points-System%21).

The deadline for this challenge is May 31st.

I've never designed my own desktop - hmmm....

I've made a new desktop. I was inspired by a template and the bright colors of the new Picket Fences kit by Wishing Well Creations...
Here it is, linked for credits as usual.

I love our gallery, and feel so inspired every time I look. For this challenge though, I decided to scraplist/inspire myself. I love etc by Danyale's Renewal kit, and I've been thinking alot lately about luck and magic (probably since I'm working through my photos from my last Disney trip!).
