View Full Version : Homecoming Hybrid Challenge - August 16th

07-10-2012, 08:48 AM
We are celebrating Homecoming this weekend here at the Digichick. And you know what Homecoming means - another school year begins!

We have a little "school themed" hybrid challenge for you! For this challenge, use the pencil box template provided to create your own version of a "back to school" pencil box. The template includes a variety of file formats so you can use an electronic cutter, or just simply print the PDF version on the back of your paper and cut it out by hand.

The template includes both the box base and the mats to decorate the base, but feel free to decorate it any way you wish. Create it for yourself, for your kids or even as a little teacher gift. We want to see your style!

You can download the free template here: Pencil Box Template (http://www.thedigichick.com/staff/files/pgp-pencilbox-template.zip)

Here is a little example made with the Digichick Extracurricular Boutique Collaboration Kit:

As a side note, Silhouette has clarified their use policies and no longer allows independent designers to sell Studio files. But not to worry - we have a quick and easy solution to make sure you don't miss out on any great designs.

Here is a brief video tutorial on how to import .dxf files into your Silhouette Studio software.

Here are the rules:

You must use at least 75% Digichick Goodies on your project to qualify for points.
When you’ve finished your box, come back to this post and leave a comment with a link to your it. (Feel free to use our gallery here at the Digichick if you need a place to upload your project. We even have a spot just for challenge entries!)
You will earn 2 points for participating in this challenge by the weekend deadline.
For more information about our Chickie Points System, please see this thread here (http://www.thedigichick.com/forums/showthread.php?34471-Chickie-Points-System!).
The deadline for double points on this challenge is Monday, August 20. For single points the deadline is August 31st.

Hi everyone!

One quick note about the template - If you import the .dxf files into Silhouette Studio, the size of the box might change a little depending on how you have your system set up. Before you cut, make sure the box is big enough to fit the pencils or pens and that the mats fit.

If you want to duplicate mine - the box measures 6.4" wide by 10.4" high with flaps and all.

The mats are 2.5" wide and 7.7", 7.25" and 1.5" high.

Of course - you can make your box any size you want - part of the beauty of cutting machines!

I had a go at this with my children (almost 8!, 5 and 3yrs). My oldest wanted to know if I could print out a few spares to have ready for next time she is a bit bored, so she can make some more! I know they are not the neatest finished result, but the children are thrilled that they have made them!! (They each chose their own papers and elements, and told me exactly how they wanted things - well the 3yr old just told me about the importance of a blue truck, but the girls were far more specific!). Thank you for the template!

Corrin - that's awesome - so glad your kids had fun. Mine love watching the cutter cut and then taking the pieces off the sticky mat. :)
