I'm so excited to be hosting our monthly Tell Your Story Journaling Challenges, now in their new home right here at The DigiChick! You'll find these special writing challenges here in the forum during the second week of every month.

This month our theme and gorgeous collab kit are all about "the great outdoors."

I grew up as a very suburban kid, and am now the mom of some very suburban kids who are well-versed in the art of Wii--and, yes, even board games, books, and Legos--but who rarely have opportunities to freely explore "the great outdoors." I remember my own childhood summer trips to visit my grandparents in the Missouri Ozarks, and the freedom we felt in following trails through the woods, swimming with the tiny fish in the lake, picking wild blackberries and Queen Anne's Lace, sleeping with the window open to the sounds of crickets. Even now, though my grandparents are gone and their home in the woods belongs to someone else, I have twinges of a sort of "muscle memory" when I think about those days; they are more than just memories. I know those days shaped me.

For your journaling challenge this month, consider the ways the natural world shaped you, or the way it shapes (or you hope it will shape!) your children and family.

Did you grow up with an outdoor "getaway" tradition? Is there a place that you think of as your natural setting?
What sights, sounds, smells, tastes do you recall? Do you find ways to incorporate those sensory remembrances into your everyday life now? How?
Do you or your family make an effort to spend time in the outdoors together during the summer? What are your favorite activities? Foods? Do you collect anything (a favorite flower, geocache treasures, shaped rocks...)?
When you're back at home in "regular" life, what parts of your outdoor experience linger with you, and what memories do you bring back again and again?

----------------------------------
Since this is not strictly a scrapping challenge you do not have to make a scrapped page (though you are, of course, welcome to do so!). You are welcome to hand-write your journaling in your personal notebook or digitally write it on a scrapbooking paper.

To be eligible for Chickie points, you can make a layout that incorporates your journaling or share with us your typed or handwritten journaling.

If you choose to make a layout, use whatever scrapbooking supplies you have on hand. (You don’t have to use something from our shop in order to participate in our TYS Challenges. However, if you would like to earn points toward free products, this challenge does qualify for Chickie Points. In order to earn 1 Chickie Point with a layout for this challenge, you must use at least 75% Digichick Designs on your layout.)

If you complete this challenge with journaling that isn't intended for a scrapbook page, you can still earn a Chickie Point by emailing Sinead (sinead@thedigichick.com) a screenshot of your journaling (or a pic with your camera). She doesn't have to be able to read all of the details if the journaling is private; she just needs to determine that you have followed along with the challenge. Sinead will add the point to your Chickie Points thread when she receives your email. Of course, you are also welcome to share your journaling with us by posting your work in the gallery (see the next paragraph). In an email she needs:

Just in case you need a little refresher on our Chickie Points system (http://www.thedigichick.com/forums/showthread.php?34471-Chickie-Points-System%21), read more here (http://www.thedigichick.com/forums/showthread.php?34471-Chickie-Points-System%21). :)

Please do come back and share your work with us! (Feel free to use our open gallery here at the Digichick (http://www.thedigichick.com/gallery/) if you need a place to upload your layout. We even have a spot just for challenge entries (http://www.thedigichick.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=509)!) Link up your journaling or layout to this thread, too!

The deadline to get the Chickie Points is July 31st.

hmmm, this is a lovely challenge, I'm looking forward to joining in! Your photo could have been taken somewhere near me (well, if you added some rain!).
