okay, after clicking....i found them:
Here are the OFFICIAL rules as stated by Memory Makers in their July 2005 issue...followed by an FAQ section.
1. Send the following:
*4 color-copied layouts (approximately full-size) of any theme that represent your best scrapbook artwork and your special abilities. Layout may be a mix of single pages or two-page spreads (a two-page spread counts as one layout). In any of the following sizes: 12x12, 8.5x11 or 12x15. If the page features mechanical elements or special features not visible from a basic color copy, please include additional copies showing the special elements. Please send color copies only; original artwork will not be returned.
* 1 actual 12x12 single-page layout highlighting your interpretation of the theme "joy and comfort." Be creative and have fun. Please use actual photos on the page, no color-copied photos. Original artwork will not be returned but becomes property of Memory Makers and will be kept on file for possible future use. If page is published, it will be returned at that time.
* Digitally created pages are eligible but must be printed following the same size guidelines above and should be accompanied by a CD containing digital files of pages.
* No part of entry should be published or posted on any public domain web site until contest winners are announced (July 1 - September 23, 2005). This includes, but not limited to, chatrooms, message boards and online galleries.
2. Don't forget:
All layouts must include a photo/photos, jounaling and a title. Please securely attach the following to the back of EACH layout: a completed Idea Form with your name, city and state, phone number and email address, a complete list of all supplies used on the page and a brief explanation of any special techniques featured on the page. If pages include any photos from professional studios, a model release form must be completed and included (forms available on our website.)
3. Mail your entry to Memory Makers, 2005 Master Contest, 12365 Huron St., Suite 500, Denver, CO 80234. Entries must be postmarked no later than August 15, 2005.
Entries will be judged and winners chosen based on quality of craftsmanship, design, originality, creativity, journaling, photos, title, techniques and how well submission meets entry requirements.
Winners will be chosen by September 15, 2005 and contacted by phone no later than September 23, 2005. Winners and 10 runner-ups will be posted on Memory Makers web site on or before September 23, 2005.

FAQ SECTION
I'm only 16, can I still enter?
There are NO age limits for entrants. (I double checked on this)
*******************
Can I submit an 8x8 layout as one of my entries?
You may only submit pages that are 12x12, 12x15, or 8.5x11. No other sizes are allowed.
*******************
Does my original theme layout have to say "Joy and Comfort" on it? and can it be a 2-page layout?
Your original "Joy and Comfort" layout must be a ONE-page layout...12x12 size. The theme is "Joy and Comfort"...whatever that means to YOU. It does not need to SAY "Joy and Comfort" on the layout.
*******************
How should I label my layouts?
You should place a sticker on the back of EACH LAYOUT copy (that includes each page of multiple-page layouts) that includes your name, address, phone #, and email addy...in addition to the idea form.
********************
Do I have to get a model release for pictures of my nephews?
You must obtain written permission to use photos of any minors that aren't your own. And it's a good idea to go ahead and fill one out on photos of your own kids anyway.
********************
I have to get permission to use professional photos, right? What about photos that other people, who aren't professionals took?
You must obtain written permission to use photos that you did not take yourself (this includes both professional AND amateur).
********************
I live in Canada, can I still enter?
Of course! There are no restrictions on where you live. We have several current and past Masters from other countries (including Canada and New Zealand)
********************
Does Memory Makers give preference to paper layouts over digital?
No. It doesn't matter! What Memory Makers is looking for is quality, creativity, and craftsmanship regardless of whether it's made of paper or done digitally.
********************
It says to use original photos, not color copies...what does this mean?
Memory Makers expects you to use HIGH-QUALITY photos. They don't want poor-quality pictures that have been printed out on a copier. It's ok to print out your own photos, just make certain they're high resolution and on good photo paper. You can print them on things other than photo paper (like canvas, transparencies, or textured paper) IF your theme and overall look call for this. MM just doesn't want inferior quality photos on a layout.
*******************
I was a runner-up in the Masters contest last year, can I still enter?
Of course! The only people who AREN'T eligible to enter are regular employees of Memory Makers or F&W Publishing or their subsidiaries (that does not include contract artists). Oh, and if you've already WON the Masters contest in the past...you can't enter (sorry Nic).
******************
I am entering a design team contest. I have a layout that is now my favorite with many parts unique. Can I enter it in the Masters contest too?
If BOTH companies end up wanting the same layout then you'd have to choose which one to send it to. Remember, for the Masters contest, your entries must be unpublished. So, if the other design team wants that layout, you'd have to turn them down or forfeit your entry into Masters.
********************
Lets say I loaded a layout online here, but I change it around, add more things, move the pic, etc. Is that still considered having been posted online?
If it's recognizable as the other one, it wouldn't be eligible because you've posted it on a public website. They want totally FRESH, NEW, NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN layouts.
********************
Do you include layouts in several different categories such as wedding, baby, family, Xmas, etc. so the judges can see what you can do as far as different techniques for different categories?
Subject matter is not as important as showcasing different techniques and styles!
*********************
Okay, do entries that are mailed in the beginning of July get preference over the one's mailed pretty close to the due date of August 15?
Absolutely NOT. They are judged solely on the quality of the work. (However, it's great if you want to send them early! You're less likely to accidentally miss the deadline that way.)
***********************
Okay, I think we're only to send in 4 layouts total, correct?
Actually it is a total of 5 layouts. 4 of them are copies of whatever you want to send in (in 12x12, 12x15, or 8.5x11 sizes either one or two-page layouts)...the fifth is your ORIGINAL "Joy and Comfort" page (12x12 one-page layout).
*************
Can I enter any of the layouts that I also entered into another contest at a recent convention/scrapbook show?... one of them was chosen as a winner.
You CANNOT enter any layouts if they've won other contests or been shown/displayed in public. If they were displayed at a show, this is considered a public showing and these are considered previously published therefore they are ineligible.
****************
Does the "2-page, counts as one" LO rule apply to the theme page? Or is it really one page and only one?
One page means one physical page. It can have fold-out parts, but its "footprint" must be one 12x12 page. The rest of your entries can be either one, or two-page layouts...but if it's a multiple-paged layout...that counts as ONE layout.
***************
How would the photo rules apply if the person who took the picture has passed away? For example, if I used pictures my grandmother took, would I still be able to use them even though she died long ago?
Heritage photos are a whole other topic. As long as you included a note stating that the photographer is no longer living...or the studio in which the photo was taken no longer exists...that should suffice.
******************
Where do you get copies of 12x12s done? Everywhere I have tried only can handle up to an 11x17. Do you just make due?
Here is a link to a thread on making copies of your layouts: http://www.memorymakersmagazine.com/forum/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=9735&posts=6
*****************
I understand that if we've uploaded our pages to a website gallery for public viewing that they're not eligible... even if removed?
If you post a layout on a public forum, it's considered published, period. Going back now and removing them is a moot point. You've already posted it, so the ones that have already been posted are ineligible...even if you pull them now.
****************
What if you upload them for private viewing by a constructive criticism group? I suppose this would't be allowed either?
If you post a layout in a PRIVATE group with only a few members, that is not the same as posting your layout on a public board. There are no hard-fast rules on this, but 5-10 members is probably ok...50-100 is probably not. Use your judgement.
**********************
Is it ok for me to use photos someone else hase taken? Does this hurt my chances if the photos aren't my own?
No it doesn't hurt your chances. As long as you obtain written permission to use someone else's photos, that's all that matters.

Wow -- talk about a lot of work, lol! So then no 'emailed' entries, eh? I'll have to print them out... hmmm... are you still up for the challenge, Kim?
holly
06-24-2005, 10:11 PM
It seems like less work than CK HOF has their stuff now...all those assignments. What does it hurt to try? I just hate to have to get a 12 x 12 printed! ACK!
I hate saying that I'm going to try and then not make it! LOL
KimMauch
06-24-2005, 11:42 PM
I am still up for the challenge! It would be great to do with others, to encourage, etc. Any others want to join? Come on, Holly, I know you wanna!

MarshaZepeda
06-25-2005, 12:32 AM
How about this... let's challenge each other (just for the heck/fun of it) and check in regularly to see how we're doing? What do you think? We'll keep each other accountable. Even if we don't end up applying, we'll still have that many more layouts to add to our 'albums'! (We could email each other jpg copies for cc...)

06-25-2005, 02:57 AM
I'd like to try too... only, I'm not completely comfortable with my digi work yet. I'd probably do paper LOs for this one. I guess 5 LOs by Aug doesn't seem so bad... you're right Holly, it's the getting them printed part that sucks... especially since we don't get to keep them.
ScrapHappyME!

I think I might try- provided I get my act together! :P

Maybe we need a special/private groupfor those of committed to doing this. That way, our work ideas, etc. remain a secret should we get chosen. I know the rules say it can't be shared with more than 10 people for constructive critiscism. Thoughts? Maybe we have a serious "inquiry" type request to join the private group?
KimMauch
06-25-2005, 11:00 AM
I love the idea of a small, private group. Yahoo groups, perhaps? I can certainly "run" it, if you'd like. Let me know!

Laura_A
06-25-2005, 05:19 PM
Marsha, I think versitility is good. Just do what you do best and they'll love it.
I'm all for a critique group... long as ya'll don't count my paper against me. LOL

i submitted for mmm two years ago (paper los). i thought i could be cool and detached about the whole process, but no way!! once my stuff was sent, i was on 2peas all the time seeing what everyone else was saying  and i was a nervous wreck during call week. i mean, i didn't really expect to be called, but you never know!!!
i just keep going back and forth with myself on my "need" to become more published (i was published once three years ago - my one and only attempt before mmm) and it seems i always come up with a different answer. i don't need to be published to make me feel like a decent scrapper, but it doesn't hurt to know that the so-called experts think i am a decent scrapper. and how much does my desire to be published affect the pages i am scrapping - would i really create the same page just for myself?? you get the picture!!
anyway, best of luck for those of you going for it!

You're right, Holly - pretty easy. I just did one in about 2 minutes. For some reason, I thought that it would be a little more complex! :D
I'll start looking for pm's or emails from people who want to join.
This is gonna be good motivation for me! Kim

I plan to enter...I have the majority of my LOs done..since I do both digi and paper scrapping, I plan to enter both. SO far I have only one that is a digi and it is VERY simple. Are any of you that are entering submitting both types of pages?
holly
07-09-2005, 07:59 PM
I'm just doing Digi for it - I've never entered any big contest like this before...so trying to not get my hopes up! LOL

07-10-2005, 03:03 PM
I did enter HOF (I knew I wasn't going to win) BUT I loved every bit of it. I really had to push myself creatively. It was worth it (although disheartening when I lost) but now I am prepared to lose again (now that I am used to it) at MMM but still have some great quality LOs in the end!!!! :) I am truly satisfied with all of the LOs I have to enter so I have nothing to feel sorry about.
Good luck to you all who are entering! I have seen some GREAT talent in the gallery and I will not be surprised if at least one of you gals win!!!

Is call day September 15th or Sept 23rd? Does anyone know?

So, should we huddle around a chat on September 23rd? Make sure we have everyone on IM? Have the chocolate and sparkling cider handy?
I would be happy to see even just one of us (more is fine) get one of the top 10 spots!

I guess if I had done paper ones I would have... but since I have the masters of all of my layouts... it's not that big of deal, I guess... lol! I could just go and re-print them... (which I will but in 8x8 since that's my fave size!) :regular_s
