When resizing an image to post in the gallery, how do you keep the dimension high but keep the file size small?

Well, luckily in Photoshop, there is a "Save for Web" function where you can tell it you want it to be....however, I start out and change my image file to 72 dpi and size it to 500 x 500. Then, do the save for web so that the file size I tell it to end up is as close to 100 k without going over.

When I'm just submitting for hopes of being chosen, I always send a 100 dpi (no more....but less if I can't get it good quality and exact at 100 dpi) and 500 x 500 pixels. Then, if they want, they will normally tell you what size to send. Most are going to want a 300 dpi file saved at a 10 quality and maybe even full size. They'll let you know. That's why I always have two copies in my folder a full size version and a gallery saved version.

so..what is full-size considered? I ask b/c alot of times my pics are not as big as I want them to be when creating a LO so I resize the ppr (but not permanently)..just to copy and paste into a new file...sO I have usually been working at 1500x1500...is that too small? (so sorry for all the Q's?!!)

I do 12 x 12 layouts - printing them at 8 x 8....so it depends on what you do. I always shoot at the highest resolution with my camera so my pictures are able to be larger.

I save my files at full and for the gallery too. I have 2 folders to keep them separated. For me I find that if I cnage the dpi to 72 it makes the LO unclear and out of focus. Changing the file to 70ox700 and saving at a lower file size allows you to keep the LO a bit more clear. In PS if you wait a sec for the file to complete preping it will state at the bottom of the second save window the file size at that level and you can change it to what you need

okay...so ONE last question...PROMISE!! When I use your ppr and open them, they are 3600x3600...is that full size? (is that the size you work in?)

thanks again!

Yeah, same as 12 x 12 - I normally create my designs at that size since a lot of people scrap that way, but they can easily be resized down!

well..I do resize them b/c of my pics....the largest pic that my camera will take is 2048x1536 ( at least I think that's as big as it goes). so how small do you think the mags would take? (not that I plan on getting pubed anytime soon).

Well, I'm sure that some do 8 x 8 in size which is 2400x2400, then 6 x 6 is 1800x1800. I mean, I think they really care more about the resolution....300 dpi!

Ok, does anyone know how to do such a thing in Paint Shop Pro 9?

There is no save for the web and I can't get this thing small enough to get online.

I'm not sure if this helps anyone, but I know that in PHotoshop if you have your page set up as 300 dpi and you pull a file into it that isn't 300 dpi it will resize it automaitcally. For example, when I open a photo taken by my camera and look at its dimensions it says it's 140 dpi but somthing like 11"x14". But when I pull it into my 12x12 300 dpi page it automatically rescales it to 300 dpi which makes the picture a normal 4x6. So Leora you shouldn't have to resize your photos to put them onto your page. It should do it automatically. Does this make sense? I hope so!
