About 8 months ago I received an e-mail from Cantata Books telling me that one of my layouts was going to be published in an upcoming book. This is my first layout to be published and was so excited. That excitement slowly wore off as I never heard anything from them again...even though I e-mailed them a couple of times asking the status of the book and my layout.
Well when I received a package in the mail today with a return address reading CANTATA BOOKS...I tore into that sucker quicker than you can even imagine. LOL I flipped through the book twice quickly looking for my layout and then another 2 times very SLOWLY...lots of great layouts but none of them are mine. Does this mean they decided against my layout? I'm so sad. Why send me the book if my layout isn't in it?
BTW...congrats Laura! I saw at least 2 layouts by you in there. Oh and one by Angela! Awesome stuff ladies!

You saw one by me? Can you tell me what it was?
I wonder why they didn't put your layout in there? I've come to the conclusion that they're not the most organized.

It may be that they decided not to put the LO in but sent the book sort of a 'thank you for your time' thing? It's annoying but they can decide even at the last second not to use something they've asked for. I'm sorry girl!
What book was this?

I think you are right (about them being unorganized). The layout of yours is entitled Nature. It's a b/w photo and the layout is shades of light green. Very pretty!

What book was this?
It's called The Kodak Book of Scrapbooking Your Favorite Photos.
Something I just realized about the book is they don't list credits for supplies anywhere. Isn't that a standard thing for magazines and books...a list of credits? I know they insisted I provide them with a list of supplies. Just seems strange and almost "not right". KWIM?

Hmmm....don't think that's me...maybe Angela Barton...

Dang I'm sorry Angela! It was Angela Barton! I get the two of you confused even though she goes by Ange Dawn. My bad!

That's a bummer! I think there's a lot of disorganization out there in the publishing world. I had quite a mess with a mini-book of mine that was being considered. They were so bad about communicating with me that I finally demanded my work back because I was scared they would lose it or destroy it or something. Maybe I blew a chance there, but I just think that these companies should be better about communicating with artists. I don't know if it'll make you feel any better, but I've heard of this happening to other folks too - don't let it get you down - your work is great :)

Thanks for for the words of encouragement Lisa. :) I don't blame you about demanding your mini-book. That's one of the great things about digital...you always have the "original" in your possession. LOL

I'm glad you at least got a free book out of the deal. Keep submitting!!!!!

Yeah, 2 of my favorite LOs went into that book. However, I had no idea it was even close to being finished. LOL I had about 5 LOs in Cantata's "Color Pallete" book and really enjoyed working with them. In their defense... maybe Kodak was the unorganized party? LOL But, there does seem to be a lack of communication there.
So, I guess I should start looking for my LOs in the mail. :51:

Once I found out that they don't give supply credits, I decided not to submit anything further to them. They requested 2 layouts for their sports book a year and a half ago and I *still* don't even have the book.

Bummer, Emily! I remember how excited you were when you posted about it at DSD way back when :) . I'm sorry...I know that has to be disappointing! I'm with Angela, I think submitting is like taking digital photos...for everyone 100 photos, you get a good one or two...but I don't know if I'm up to the task of submitting that many layouts :D !

LOL - Kathy - I think you are right. I have submitted like 500 layouts lol, 4 of the 5 requested were published, so I considered that fantastic lol :) Took almost a YEAR for one of them to come out though, and that was a big mystery and a long wait...still never got my free copy - but whatever, Jen Wilson has 3 copies - ha ha! Was part of her feature in Paper Arts and they sent her an extra copy for each kid :D
