I'm one lucky gal, DH purchased me a laptop the other day. Let me tell ya, I love it. We've got it hooked up to a wireless router so I can roam around the house and scrap and upload to the internet wherever I want, how cool is that? Here's my question...With the wireless router, you are supposed to be able to share files from the cpu to the laptop. Does anyone here know how to do that? We've been trying, but we just haven't been able to figure it out yet...argh.
TIA

Hee hee! This is my first post here - I never get to have time online! LOL
I use my hubby's new laptop, then when I want to transfer it to my computer I just use the 512 jump drive I bought a month or two ago. It is kinda' a drag, though, to do, but - it serves the purpose for now. If you get the answer to your question, and get it to work, can you let me know too?! LOL
Thanks so much, enjoy your weekend!
MissT.

all we had to do to get it to work was have a firewall enabled and to have the settings set to allow us to share make a call to your router support and they will get you setup in a few minutes. Really it's worth it

I do things very man like 90% of the time. I Do THEN i read the manual to find out if I did it wrong as a last resort. If I use the manual at all it's to check the pictures for visual confirmation. I hate reading that mumbo jumbo. So when it came to WIFI I knew nothing about it and I knew that I needed to have someone help me or risk disaster LOL

have you changed the security settings on the drives to allow sharing? the icon changes to a hand holding the drive icon if the drive has been set up to be shared. if not, just right click on the drive icon and choose sharing and security. you'll see a warning that sharing is not recommended, but there's also a hotlink to allow sharing. you need to do this for every drive that you want to share (real drives if you have multiple hard drives or virtual drives if your hard drive is partitioned).
once you've allowed sharing, you should be able to pull up a list of all shared drives by clicking on "my network places"
please pm me if i can help more - we've got five computers networked with both wireless and ethernet!!

give it a shot (Click Here (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/default.mspx)) or buy a NAS drive
Network Attached Storage
We use a Simpletech one (Click Here (http://www.simpletech.com/commercial/simpleshare/index.php))

I have had no problem setting mine up, and I thought I would after reformatting my computer this last week.
I use the Windows set-up, which is linked with where you see your Networks.
I have a flash drive, and that is recommended for best usage to link it.
Basically, I had to plug in the flash drive in the laptop, into the wireless router, into the main computer, and follow the rest of the directions.
I can also print on wireless, which required me to hook my printer into the wireless router also. But you can only do that if you have extra hook ups to do so.

Back in the good ol' days when we had a desktop and a laptop (desktop has since died boo hoo), I set up a home network btwn them by running the network wizard (not sure what it's called) on both computers. I also had to change some firewall settings to indicate what folders could be shared.
Every so often the network would stop working and I would have to do it all over.
Hope you figure it out soon.

Yes, the Wireless Network Wizard.
Thanks, I couldn't remember what it was called!! If you look on the side, you will see something like "Set Up Network for Home or Small Office" and follow the directions.

We're networked at our house, too. I'll ask DH tonight to explain it to me.
