DO NOT!! I repeat DO NOT log on while cooking!!
I have burnt three things this last week because I logged on while waiting for the stove to warm up. :)
first--my pot, (yes I actually boiled the water out of it. ROFL!!
second, chicken for fajitas
third-- eggs just barely. :)

LOL! Thanks for the warning!
I usually turn off my laptop when I start dinner. Otherwise dinner won't get cooked!

OMG you are such a goofball. That being said.....I have a story.
I made spaghetti one night, and made wayyyy to much sauce. So I froze a gallon sized ziplock of it. The other night, I wanted to heat it up, but I wasn't sure how. So I got the brilliant idea to fill a big pot with cold water and drop the ziplock in and let the water warm the sauce gradually. Well..I logged on. By the time I remembered that I was cooking, it was too late. I ran in there, and snatched the bag out of the boiling water. The water was so hot that it melted the bottom of the bag and all my sauce went into the huge pot of water. It was like soup. No, a broth!
So.....from now I say:
MAKE SCRAPBOOKS, NOT DINNER!

I have not done that yet, mostly because I don't really cook that much... but I have ignored my husband and kids, had my kids wait for milk way too long, lost track of time and was lating picking the oldest from preschool...and many more!

heather, too funny on the milk thing! I'm like "WHAT? You need milk AGAIN? Didn't I get you a cup like 2 seconds ago? How can you possibly be thirsty again so soon??"
And then I look at the clock, and oops, it *has* been 3 hours ;)

Too funny! You don't want to know how many things I've ruined because my attention is much too focused on the computer screen. Let's not even talk about the melt-downs that my 2.5 year old has had while I was trying to finish "just one more thing." Bad mommy! Hey--but she's napping now!! ;) (of course, I'm supposed to be working!)

While I haven't burned anything when I'm logged in here (my computer is in the basement, one floor down from the kitchen), I have been known to tell my sons, "Just another minute, honey. Mommy will get that drink in just a minute!" And then 20, 30, 60 minutes pass...

You guys are all so funny. I know I was pathetically excited last night that my DH had a meeting and my DD was at a friend's. That left me and my step-daughter at the house and she ignores me, so it was perfect.
I have (on the few occasions I've logged on during the weekend) driven my family crazy with the oven timer continually going off because I am not paying attention... or the water continually boiling (I'm lucky that I haven't pulled an Amber and left it on so long that it burned completely out though). :)
I was totally cracking up about Kimberly's sauce story. :) You can always toss some frozen tortellini in and make that soup. :)
Amazing how addictive it can become.

Are we going to refer to that as "pulled an Amber":whatchuta LOL!! I know--shame on me. to my defense it was only an inch or so of water---that doesn't take too long to boil out! :teeth_smi

Laura... my kids would love you. They only want to eat out all of the time. Never want home-cooked meals. :)

LOL Amber! I have done this too. I left some mozzeralla sticks in the oven while leaving comments in the gallery and all the cheese melted right out of the breading. It was a big pool of melted cheese with bread floating in it, lol!

My DD laughs at me about this site and my "addiction" but she ended up burning mac & cheese in a pan while she was talking to her bf. She put it into the sink to soak with soapy water and my step-daughter decided she didn't want to wash it (her chore) so she threw the pot away. I could have killed her... it wasn't a cheap pot... and then she lied about it for weeks. I tore the place apart trying to find it because it was my favorite pot to cook in. :( We're laughing about it now, but I wasn't happy for awhile.

oh yes, i've pulled an Amber many a time. :D
although my absolute favorite is when i make myself a cup of coffee. i have one of those single serve coffee makers, and when i go to make a second cup, i'll get it going, leave the room, get sucked in here... and come back to find my coffee cold, lol!
