Kind of, sort of, a spin-off on Andrea's "What's your thing" thread...did you ever swear "I'll never do this" or "this is what I want for my life" and then do the exact opposite?

I never understood the people who bought organic food or shopped in natural food stores. Now DH and I go there all the time :embaresse

I know there are more, but this is what I've thought of so far :22:

This might sound bad - but - having kids. lol! In HS, I didn't think I ever wanted kids. Now I'm on my 4th one! Also, dropping thousands of dollars on photog and comp equipment!!! (My comp alone - not incl. monitor - cost me 2300... :whatchuta) which btw needs to prob be replaced soon. It's been acting kinda weird lately...

hey marsha, I said I'd never get married and have kids either -- and now we'll have six ;)
I was headed for a career in astrophysics (no, i'm not kidding) and thought a husband and kids would really cramp my style ROFL

I said in 9th grade that I wouldn't like doing sports photography. Now I am known in the photo department for sports photography (gymnastics mainly)

my senior year in high school, mike took me to prom. we had broken up a few months before and were going as friends because i had already bought the dress and we had already paid to go. when i told my best friend this, she snorted and said that she's willing to bet anyone, any amount of money that mike and i were going to end up married some day. i laughed, told her that was one bet she'd lose, because, ya know, mike and i were sooooo over, we were just friends, and that i'd find a 'real man' at college.

um, ok, yeah. ten years later, mike and i are married, with three kids. :D

- being a SAHM. i thought that was just way too conventional for me - turns out i wouldn't have it any other way.
- being passionately devoted Christian. i didn't get what all the fuss was about and saw religion as something that would tie me down instead of setting me free. boy, was i wrong!

LOL, Charlene, I can totally relate: about 1 month before meeting my boyfriend online, I told a friend of mine that, unlike her, I could never fall in love with a man I never saw! Oh, boy, I was wrong!!

Have kids. I always swore I would never have kids of my own. I didn't want to go through childbirth. It scared me. I wanted to just adopt. obviously that has changed!

letting my kids run around in just a diaper and no shoes in the backyard. i used to think that was the epitomy of redneck-ness lol. (after three kids, i dont care anymore! lol)

also, my kids wore missmatched clothes today. lol i swore i would never let my kids leave the house not looking good lol. oh well.

I just knew that I'd go to college and get a doctorate in something. Somehow, I missed that boat though and only have 10 college credits at this point. I also knew that I'd never be a SAHM...and yet, here I am!!

LOL Tara! That totally cracked me up. I was the same way. When my SD first moved in with us she was 13 and dressed horribly. I used to fight the battle to try and at least make sure there wasn't plumber's crack issues, but now I've given up. After two years, she still looks horrible and I just ignore it.

I never thought I'd be chatting with friends online that I've never met IRL. I used to tease a coworker of mine for her addiction to message boards and chatrooms and now here I am-probably way worse than she ever was! LOL

I also never thought I'd marry anyone younger than me, the same height as me, and a mexican. My husband is so far removed physically from the guys I dated that it came as quite a shock when I realized he was the one! LOL
