I posted a thread about this elsewhere before I saw the Elements heading...oops - what a newbie...

I have Photoshop Elements, but I have no training or experience on it. I want to start scrapping but I need a little help...

First off, how do you set up your page to start with. When I click on new project or file it asks for pixels and what not - I haven't a clue...

How do you get an 8x8 or 10x10 or 12x12 page to work on and add the graphics too?

I told you I was a newbie...

you should see a drop-down menu right next to where you see the number of pixels where you can choose 'inches'. Do you see that?

Like Valerie said, there will be a box near pixels that will switch over to inches if you prefer. If you are scrapping at 300dpi, 8x8 is 2400x2400 pixels and 12x12 is 3600x3600 pixels.

Ok now you have a blank, fresh screen. First thing you want to do it is copy and paste a sheet of paper...start playing...papers first... then some pictures... then maybe some fonts... everytime you paste something new, PSE should create a new layer for you.............

I'll try it tonight - I am an online loser - I only go online at work because my home computer is too slow...so I'll print out the how-to's and take them home to play tonight!

Thanks so much - maybe sometime before the end of the year I'll have a post!

Hi Amy,

I am pretty new to this too and had never used any photo editing software until about 3 months ago. What I did when I started was borrow a couple of books from my local library and taught myself about layers, drop shadows, journalling, etc. There is one called "scrapbooking with your computer" by Carla Rose. That was really useful. I also borrowed a book on PSE called "SAMS teach yourself photoshop elements 3 in a snap" by Scott M Fulton. Both these were great and I ended up buying the SAMS one. Otherwise there are a bunch of great tutorials on doing you first digi-page scattered on various sites on the web.

Hope this is useful.

Go to scrapbook-bytes.com and click on tutorials. They have a bunch of tutorials for elements and one of the first is how to do a simple layout. I have has PSE for years and did not use a tenth of it's capabilities until a couple of months ago when I started using it to scrap. I can't believe how easy it is once you have a couple of tutorials to sstart you off. A word of warning... You will become ADDICTED :wink_smil
