lol at Prawn! We always just said, "The Baby." Maggie calls this baby "My sister" though as I said, we don't know it's a sister for sure or not. We'll see. I called Maggie "Little One" most of the time.

gosh... we're such bad parents... we called Ian "IT" when i was pregnant with him.

Rachel, why does that not surprise me :) LOL
Is he really hairy now?

07-25-2006, 06:21 PM
Kimberlee you and your mom were prego at the same time?! WOW
RachelS
07-25-2006, 06:38 PM
no he's not really hairy.... LOL
kimberlee, i was pregnant at the same time as my mom too! my little brother is 3 months older than my oldest son. in fact, my mom was in the hospital on bedrest for about a month, and during that time, i had fallen down on some ice and had to be monitored for a few hours. it was really rather entertaining because my mom was in the room next door to me. the nurses couldn't believe we were mother and daughter... but it made life easier because my sister and stepdad just took turns visiting with us. LOL
Charla
07-25-2006, 06:50 PM
That's really funny, Rachel. My mom really wanted that to happen to us (well, not the bedrest and falling on ice) but the youngest is now 6 1/2, so unless there's a miracle, it's not going to happen.

you know whenever i try to explain it to people, i usually get a funny look... one that says "wow you're a bunch of hillbillys" then i feel compelled to explain that after they were married, my mom and stepdad had to try for quite a while to get pregnant with matt, and that no, we are not a bunch of hillbillys... both of them have master's degrees and my stepdad is a lt. colonel in the army. they just wanted to have a large family.
Charla
07-25-2006, 07:32 PM
same here :)
People usually figure it must be a second marriage or something.
So how many siblings do you have? (I'm the oldest of 11) :D

Yeah, we get that look too. My mom remarried when I was 18 and my brother was 15. She had always wanted more kids (so we had a string of bad foster kid situations) and my stepdad had no kids and always wanted a lot, so she got pregnant at 40 and then he wanted her to get pregnant right away again but she had a difficult pregnancy so she held off.
Rachel, your story puts me in mind of the Father of the Bride 2 (almost). We always laughed when that movie came out because at least then we had some other reference point.
When I had my daughter, my mom came to visit and brought my baby sis. She was a big baby and had a ton of hair (looked like she was wearing a wig)... so she looked older than 2 months... but the dumb nurse asked if she was my baby!
Charla
07-25-2006, 07:52 PM
How funny that she'd be so offended by that. I guess because they assume she's too old to be the mom?
I hear that all the time...after all, I was older when Justin (the youngest) was born than Mom was when I was born!! But my mom looks young...people always assume we're sisters, which she loves to hear :)

Good one :) Yeah, I mess around some. I should :)
Speaking of, I should post the little kit I made. I started it in March, finished it a few weeks ago, and have been too lazy to put it on the website. :)

07-25-2006, 08:06 PM
Ooooohhhh... yeah... let's see!
I've been tinkering with some stuff. I am not so hot on Photoshop as far as designing goes, but I'm okay creating brushes and then scanning in some painting I've been doing as "altered" papers.
Some kits I will look at and try to figure out if I could make it myself before I buy it... but I'm usually too lazy to spend the time I should at the computer, so I generally buy them anyway. :D
Psssst... I just bought a kit from a hot new designer that debuted at Polka Dot Potato. :D
Charla
07-25-2006, 08:18 PM
Amazing kits, aren't they?? :)
I wouldn't take the time to try to duplicate someone else's kit...I'd feel like it was stealing, anyways, even if I did it totally on my own. But I like getting ideas of color schemes or something else that makes me think, "ooh! That would be fun!" :) Okay, off to post a preview on my blog, and then i'll put it up on my website, if you'll promise to look and give me honest feedback :)

I didn't mean that I'd copy someone else's kit... I just mainly look at different elements. Like duct tape. I bought a couple of kits that had duct tape in it, and later I thought that it was kind of silly because I could have just done that all by myself. :) Or like a library card... it isn't that difficult to put one together. That kind of stuff... not an entire kit... that wouldn't be ethical. :) Plus, I always think that it is good to support other women in their business ventures. It takes a lot of guts, talent, hard work and creativity to make it work. I think that it is important for us to support those efforts and celebrate what everyone is doing in the community. :)
I'd love to see your kit. :)

My DH is grosser. Sometimes I think he comes into a room just to fart. I don't understand why he couldn't just as easily continue on to the bathroom or just stay where he was, but oh well. He rarely even says, "Excuse me," though I'm getting him to be better about that. Maggie has picked up on it and laughs whenever she burps...ugh. The habits that he passes on! At least I got him to quit saying, "Ah, that was a GOOD one!" before Maggie started talking!

Ewwww...thanks for making me appreciate my DH! After nearly 3 years of marriage, I have yet to hear or smell a fart from him! (wish he could say the same, but it's hard late-pregnancy!)
Dancing last night was awesome. Not everyone was there, that came the first week, so somehow we ended up with nearly twice as many guys as girls. So the first line of girls would get a partner, and then the second line. DH had to dance with many different girls, but I only had to dance with two other people (and the teacher, who doesn't count because she purposely danced with all of us to see how we were doing). We learned one new step in swing, and a fun, cool one in merangue, and only had a chance to recap the cha cha. :D And my shoes were awesome! It was hard to be on my toes that whole time, but that will get easier as I keep practicing :)

Big rainstorm tonight. The winds were so strong that they first flipped over the table we have outside and then they flipped over my lovely canopy (the one with the iron sides that was weighed down with 3 cement blocks on each corner). Wouldn't you know it, the canopy landed right on top of the table. A big gash in the middle of my canopy. :( Plus the legs of the canopy were all bent and twisted and mangled. There go my days of sitting outside under the canopy with Maggie (and with the fan blowing on me).

How sad, Sinead. I'm so sorry!
Rachel, adorable kit :D
We had a rough night. This is the second straight night where Jasmine woke up at 3:15 for awhile...two nights ago it was 10-15 minutes, last night was more like 40, and I was so frustrated. Josh finally got up and got her some homeopathic and baby "sleep" lotion. They must have helped...I brought her out to the rocking chair and she finally nursed to sleep. I was thankful...we both slept 'til 8:30, so I'm not too exhausted. But not fun!!
Sinead, what time is your ultrasound??
sinead
07-26-2006, 10:30 AM
No fun on the being awake thing, Charlene. Maggie was up at 4 again, but I got up and sat with her in her room to try to get her to go back to sleep. At 2.5, I don't want her in the habit of getting into our bed, you know? I ended up falling asleep in the chair in her room (ack, crick in the neck!) for an hour after sitting with her for an hour, but she went back to sleep finally!
My ultrasound is at 11:10 tomorrow (Thursday) and then I've got the doc appt right after. :regular_s

Funny...last night I was close to dumping her in her crib and closing the door (we co-sleep). She'd nurse, get snuggly, and then get up and crawl off the bed, crying. Or climb over Josh, crying. And my sweet DH, who can sleep through anything, couldn't sleep through that?? :D

I really liked it! I think you did a great job on it. I actually haven't even uploaded that one to the site yet! I forgot to tell you - I was telling someone (maybe Stacey) a while back that I needed to tell you that, but then forgot :) whoops. It's okay though. I get it to them... eventually. Don't wanna press my luck by giving them another one when they've been trying to get all of my other stuff up and running!
Hi all! Congrats on LO of the day, Rachel!
I'm getting scarce around here. Everything is packed but the plates and the food (and my computer on top of a filing cabinet!) - we're living out of luggage and the place looks totally bare! I'm planning on leaving tomorrow (or possibly tonight) to live with the in-laws and help get the new place ready and get the kids somewhere where they can play. DH will stay here and work his last 3 days through Saturday, and then load up the truck and clean on Sunday. It's our 5-year anniversary on Friday but we will be apart. :broken_he I will miss him!
I'm still not sure how things will go on the other end. Hopefully I'll be able to get back in sooner rather than later! I do know when I get back that I'll be setting up in the Boutique - I can't wait!!

I'm actually at work and getting things done today. Whew! There are two more days of training and then I'll be back to a semi-normal life. I had to fire one person on Monday and may have to fire another one soon. Not a good sign out of 13 people hired. :( I don't like to fire people. I like to be the nice guy. Usually I point out the bad people and the owner fires them. LOL. It's hard to be in that position. But I'm learning and growing and adding to my resume.

Oh, and did I tell you guys that we had the best morning yesterday? Maggie was asked to come and help at the awards ceremony for our library's summer reading program (the leader is a free spirit like Maggie and is just in love with Maggie). She asked that Maggie dress up like a princess to go with the Once Upon a Time theme--not a problem there, that would be Maggie's preferred mode of dress (with mismatched shoes, of course!).
Anyway, I didn't know that there would be a story-telling competition before the ceremony (read by the writers...4-10 yr olds...and then repeated by the story lady because nobody could hear the kids reading). Then there was an intermission between the reading and the awards stuff. Maggie went up to the front to the stage and Miss Angie because she "needed to dance." Well...Angie not only let her dance on the stage, but gave her the microphone for the karoke machine, which Maggie promptly turned on. Needless to say, everybody in the auditorium got quite a show from Miss Maggie (who could be heard LOUD AND CLEAR on the mic, unlike the older kids). Nothing shy about my kid! The little town newspaper's photographer was there (for once I didn't have my camera--can you believe it?!), so hopefully there will be some cute photos as fodder for the grandparents.
So it was a busy day. :tongwink:

So I need some advice. I realized I'm terrified to call the doctor or even to tell my mom, for fear they'll laugh at my concerns (or worse, tell me they're legit!)
I'm not showing as much right now as I was with Jasmine. And I don't have added fluff this time...I started 10 pounds lower than last time. That, and the lack of morning sickness (though that's mostly because of the health drink we're taking now) and the fact that we didn't hear the heartbeat last appointment (though it was early, being 9 1/2 weeks) is all going together to make me scared out of my mind that something's wrong.
I want things to be perfect. I love this baby and need him/her to be okay. But I really don't feel pregnant, and am scared.
Should I call the doctor and see what they say? I'm supposed to go in on Monday to hear the heartbeat, but that's a long ways away. I really dont' know what I want them to tell me, which is part of my hesitation in calling.

Call the doc. I'm sure everything is ok, but more than likely they'll get you to come in and just have the nurse check you with the doppler. I would personally just go to the doc and not mention it to your mom or anybody else--they'll tell you it'll be ok and that you'll hear it on monday (most likely--that's what mine would tell me), but I know I wouldn't be able to breathe until Monday. The doc is used to it (or the midwife). That's what they're there for, and it happens all the time. Go in and reassure yourself. it'll make you rest better.
((hugs)) girlie! I hope all is well! (and I'm sure it is!)

Charlene, if this helps, I definitely hadn't gained weight at the stage you're at - with any of my kids. With all three of mine, the first appointment I had where I had gained wait was my 5 month appointment! They all ended up perfectly fine and healthy. Micah weighed 7.8 and the girls both weighed right under 7 lbs. I'm glad you called the doc though and get to go in today. It will make you feel better knowing! Don't ever hesitate to call them if you have any concerns! :) Can't wait to hear how it goes- hope you get to hear the heart beat!

Charlene... I'm so glad you are going to get in and ease your mind. I think that is the worst part about being pregnant... worrying!
Sinead... that is sooooooo cute about Maggie. How adorable. That will be a great memory to share with her when she is older. When my DD was in kindergarten, she decided that she wanted to be in the school talent show. She sang solo, on stage with a mic at the assembly, and I almost cried. It was so cute. She sang that song by Sophie B Hawkins "As I Lay Me Down" and it was just the most precious thing. What confidence they have when they are young! Just amazing. Hopefully Maggie will hold on to that sense of self and be just as strong spirited when she's older. :)

Everything is perfect!! They couldn't get me in with the midwife as they had planned (whe was delivering a baby) so they said to come in tomorrow at 8. I started sobbing, so DH talked to them and they said we could wait a little, and see the ultrasound tech today.
So we waited for about an hour, and then saw the baby.
Absolutely perfect. Right on time (actually, measuring a few days ahead), good strong heartbeat (169, I think...right where it should be for first trimester)...and so beautiful :D

Good morning!
Another not-so-great night...it wasn't a full half hour awake, but something's making her wake up uncomfortable. It makes me sad since i don't know what's causing it. I hope it improves, whatever it is!
So those of you who nurse(d), when they stopped nursing during the night, did you give them a bedtime snack to make sure they weren't hungry during the night? We co-sleep, and she nurses during the night, but I'm wondering if there's not as much milk for her, and maybe her "discomfort" is hunger but she's too tired to tell me. ???
StaceyD
07-28-2006, 10:11 AM
Charlene, sorry you had another hard night. When she is waking up, is she nursing or just latching on and off?
Charla
07-28-2006, 10:12 AM
She usually nurses for a minute, not more than that. Could be that she just likes to suck and then falls asleep, or that she realizes there's nothing there for her...
StaceyD
07-28-2006, 10:16 AM
She probably just nurses for comfort to fall back to sleep. I don't think she is actually hungry. When she goes to nurse, there might not be much there and she doesn't know how to fall to sleep without it yet. When I was pg with Kayleigh, it was around the 3 month mark that my supply dropped.
StaceyD
07-28-2006, 10:18 AM
How often does she nurse during the day? Is she cutting back there too?
sinead
07-28-2006, 10:32 AM
It's probably just comfort nursing at this point, Charlene. Maggie nursed at night for a long time (that was her hold out)...I think she was really using me as a human bink. Not that Jasmine is doing that...I just know that Maggie probably made that shift around 15 months or so.
About the night waking...is she hitting a new milestone these days? Teething? Babbling more? She's not talking yet, is she? Those are things that usually spawned lots of night waking from Maggie. Of course, I have NO CLUE what's making Maggie wake up these days. She woke up at 10pm, 1am, and 4am last night--FREAKY! I think Miss M is having night terrors (oh thank you super vivid and precocious imagination!).
hugs to you about Jasmine and the night wakings...I hope you guys can get past it. It's SO not fun.
Charla
07-28-2006, 10:32 AM
I don't know. I've never really counted! I think it's a little less now than it used to be, but I don't know for sure :)
There is still definitely some milk there, because when she nurses during the day (like right now) she's swallowing a lot. So that feels good :)
Charla
07-28-2006, 10:41 AM
Thanks, Sinead. She's got 16 teeth so shouldn't be teething again until closer to 2 (though who knows...she's been super-early with all the others!) She may be having a growth spurt. Yeah, she is starting to talk more (her newest word, complete with head motions, is "no" but it means "I'm answering your question.") She's starting to imitate me. Wonder if that's it??
Yeah, I hope it changes quickly. For Maggie, too. You both need your sleep!!
sinead
07-28-2006, 10:48 AM
Maggie started teething for her 2 year molars REALLY early (like 16 months or so) and they didn't come in until after 2. I swear, she was working on those on and off for like 6 months!! NOT fun. It might be the talking, too. Hang in there! will she let you rest during the day? Maggie has been really good to me...even though she wakes up at the crack of dawn, she'll entertain herself (or watch Dora or Backyardigans or whatever on Noggin or DVR) so that I can doze until a more normal time. And DH has been getting up a little earlier so that there's someone who can answer her 5 billion questions and comments without having to wake me up. lol

tamra
07-28-2006, 01:20 PM
Charlene, I'm sure that Jasmine is just using the nursing to go back to sleep - especially because she wakes up just to get it in her mouth a minute and is back asleep! Both of my dd did this forever - it was really hard because I got no sleep! They woke up every half hour to do that!
Sinead, I hope Maggie gets straitened out with her sleeping. You seem to be not getting much sleep at all - and you NEED sleep!
tamra
07-28-2006, 01:22 PM
My kids were all 3 behind in the teething. ds and first dd got their first tooth just about a month and a half before they were 1. youngest dd got hers a couple of days after she turned! I will say though, that they all had 6 come in at the same time. They went from 0 - 6 teeth in a couple of weeks!

I'm not surviving well without sleep, trust me. In college, though, I lived off of about 3 hours of sleep. I'm doing better than that these days (at least in total...maybe not all at one time!), but I could still use more sleep. One of these days. lol
Maggie was an early teether. My mom has told me (ad nauseum) that babies who teethe later have stronger teeth. I don't know if that's the case, but that's what she says. lol Miss Maggie had a mouth full of teeth by 8 months and by 18 months had everything but her 2yr molars. Thankfully we're finally done with teeth--at least until the baby ones start falling out!

Thinking ahead to college? Any idea what you want to study or where you're going to go? Or are you checking out a bunch of places? That's a fun part of the senior year (that, and rubbing it in the faces of my little brothers that I was almost out of high school!)

lol... y'all got the 64 box of crayons?? my mom would only ever buy us the 24...
Okay... I have a sappy story about crayons that I have to share. When I was growing up, we were kinda poor, so we couldn't get the big 64 box of crayons. When I had DD, I started buying her the 64 box when she was old enough to hold a crayon. My (now) ex asked me why I did that when she broke them all and didn't appreciate it. So I told him that I had always wanted the big box.... and how I'd plan to organize it and keep them all sharp and wonderful... and I'd imagine all of the pictures I'd draw/color. We hadn't been dating that long, so I thought he might think I was crazy, but he came over a few days later with a gift bag. He bought a big box of crayons (just for me) and put a little bow on them. It was sooo sweet. I think I still have that box. :embaresse
I still buy crayons and color (sometimes) for relaxation. I have Hello Kitty coloring books. :embaresse But I totally believe that they should have organized them by color... but then again, maybe they figured it would entertain all of us obsessive kids. :)

Kimberlee, how sweet! Good for him :)
My crayon story: when I was earning a small (very small) allowance, I saved up just enough money to buy a store-brand 64-pack of crayons. I was so excited!
I brought them home, opened it up...not only did they not smell like crayons (the wax content was different) and the colors weren't as vibrant, but they didn't have 64 different colors! It was either 2 each of 32, or (gasp) 4 each of 16. I was so disappointed! I will never buy non-Crayola crayons, ever!
RachelS
07-29-2006, 09:49 AM

I would have to agree with you here. :) I was really depressed when DSW went away :17: It was my first home and it was hard for me to go elsewhere and start over. The girls that were there weren't at one board, but all over the place, so I couldn't just go somewhere else and have my same group.
On the crayon thing, I had the same as Rachel! Only the little crappy box of crayons! ROFL I will only buy my dd the crayolas now. It doesn't hurt that they have the only true washable ones either!
Oh and you southern girls....take your dang heat back, I don't want it! ROFL I closed the sale early yesterday and am not having it today. I love the heat, but sitting in a garage when the dew point is in the 70's and the actual temp is in the upper 90's just wasn't sitting well with me! I now have one leg more tan than the other..lol I couldn't get our little table all the way in the garage because it was so stuffed! Never again will I do this! NEVER NEVER NEVER!!!! :) Anyone need a ton of baby girl clothes??

HI LAURA!!!! it's ok not to read the whole thing... you'll think we're all crazy anyhow! (even though we are, we don't want you to think so)!
my FILs father passed away very early this morning, so this weekend we are going to be helping to make funeral arrangements. oh, and also going swimming in the pool they just finished building at MILs house.

I hear you there Rachel. It is so hard to see them like that. We went through the same with my grandpa in 2000. My grandma died 2 months after my wedding (July 98) and he wasn't the same after she was gone. He went downhill so fast. They were so independant and then to see him like he was, it was really hard.

Laura! It's good to see that you will actually mingle with us now... hehehe! I know you're very busy, but it is good to see you. As for my weekend plans, well, very busy few days to come. I am packing up all of our stuff because we are moving next weekend. At the same time getting things ready for dd's 5th birthday party. Her birthday is tomorrow, me-mydad-myuncle all have ours the next day (monday), and the following day (tuesday) SIL is being induced - so another bday! Busy indeed. I hope I can get everything packed!

It's the colors of wine, chocolate and cheese :) What would you think should be in a kit like that? Ideas???
Maybe some pewter charms? Or if you keep with the wine theme... you could create an alpha made to look like the charms that go on wine glasses at parties.... kwim? Maybe some wire glass charms with beads for the alpha. I don't know how complicated that would be. Or you could do a cute stamp like an invite/rsvp blank... or something that looks like a wine label that could be used a a journaling block. Or you could do a cocktail napkin. People could use that in different ways. Maybe some wineglass/wine bottle/chocolate/cheese doodles?
I don't know if your thought was to make the kit like a wine/chocolate/cheese theme... or if those are just the colors... so sorry if I'm a dork. :22: I'll just shut up now.
Kelsey...congrats on the job! That is always exciting!
Sinead... sorry to hear that things might not go the way you'd hoped. Keep us posted though.
Stacey... that card was so cute... you did a great job with those flowers. :)
Tamra... how are all the preparations for the move? You ready?
Where the heck is Amy? Isn't her stuff supposed to be in the boutique this week? Can't wait to see it!
Charla
08-01-2006, 10:20 PM
Thanks, Kimberlee! Those are great ideas!
I'm not sure if I want to go truly "wine/chocolate/cheese" route, just because I like it when kits are more versatile. But I might try, just for something completely different!
I'm so disappointed. DH is at my BIL's right now, watching a movie...and then he comes back here and we head home...1 1/4 hours away. I'll miss the chat :( I was so excited to find the movie and see it on time for this, but then my mom invited us over for the evening and now we won't be home on time.
I know it's not that big a deal, but it was to me. :(
Charla
08-02-2006, 12:00 PM
13 1/2 hours???? NOOOOO, don't die!!!
Jasmine should be better and sleep again! We took her to the chiropractor this morning, who found a "spot" in her neck (he thinks she fell a little harder than normal, and that put it out) so he adjusted her and said she should be perfect. I'm thrilled...this doctor usually sees people for months at a time, but since she's young, it shouldn't regress :)
So we should start getting sleep again!!! :)
How's everyone doing? Anyone else far enough east to be in this incredible heat? Hope you're staying cool! It's "only" supposed to get to 92 today...better than 95 from yesterday (we usually see one, maybe 2 days a year above 90, so this is not normal for us) Our apartment stays pretty cool, so it's not bad for us. :)
midgetprincess79
08-02-2006, 12:21 PM
It's been 97-99 here during the days for weeks and weeks now. Heat index is usually around 110-113.....you would think I would be used to it after growing up in Texas but...nope! I told DH the other day he needs to put in for orders to Alaska:)
I am just thankful for central a/c though. It got up to 102 one summer while we lived in the UK and they don't believe in A/C there....oy!

Stacey, let's not talk about the big 3-0! This is the only number I haven't liked. I don't know why, but I was SO dreading turning 30! I think this is the only b-day that will bother me though... I think anyway!
Charlene, I think it's funny that to you 92 or 95 is so terrible. It's in the 100's here ALOT!
scrapsandsass
08-02-2006, 01:07 PM
Congrats on the new niece, Tamra! :) Are you going to have pics to scrap? So what is your actual moving day?
Charlene, I know what you mean about versatility... that's always important. You could just make tons of elements to go in it and then it would work for everything. hahahahaha. :) I really need to start setting aside time to play with PS so I can try to make some kits. I can always think of ideas or things that I want in a kit, but that's about as far as I get.
Our heat isn't so bad this week. We've dropped off to the upper 70s/low 80s... so it is nice. I feel so sorry for all of you. We had our heat wave awhile ago and it was no fun! I can't imagine living somewhere that it would be hot all of the time. I just talked to a friend of mine in Laredo, TX yesterday. She's pregnant and miserable in the heat.

I made my trading card. DH really likes it, and I think I'm happy with it. How's that for confidence??
I'm looking for my favorite "imperfect" picture to use for the "bad photos can be your friend" thing. I have sooo many to choose from. Jasmine has been a wiggleworm since I was about 20 weeks pregnant, so I delete a good 60% of all the pictures I take of her...they're too blurry to work with. Just finding one that I really want to work with...that's tough! :)
