This vacation we went to several movies. This is what I think:
CARS- yes! I loved it, my husband loved it. It is funny and sweet, but still has enough racing theme for the men to get a kick out of it. Big thumbs up.
DaVinci Code- again yes, I loved it. My only gripe is that the story would have been equally good without the backdrop of religion. I don't want to start a religious thread here, it is against site policy, but for those who are Christian or Catholic, you have to get past the things that are clearly against our faiths to enjoy the story. Still a good movie, even with the controversy.
Pirates - huge disappointment. We had been hearing all week that it is better than the first. I don't think it even came close.
SPOILER WARNING: They don't finish the story, and that drives me crazy. Why not just make a movie with the same characters and tell a whole new story, completely? They ruined it by not finishing it, an leaving the story hanging.

hmmm...cool updates about the movies, Nora! I've been wanting to see DaVinci Code, but had decided to wait until it came out on video. Know what you mean about getting past the religious backdrop (had to do some of that when reading the book), but I did think that some of the questions the book raises are fairly interesting to consider. Not wanting to get into a religious discussion/debate here, either, though, so I'll leave it at that. :regular_s

i want to read the book before i see davinci code, but DH keeps telling me that the book is not nearly as good as Angels and Demons, which i absolutely loved. he thinks i shouldn't read it because it would be a big let down.
so my question is this: see the movie first or read the book?

MORE SPOILING HERE
About Pirates not ending, it was supposed to be a Matrix thing with the third movie coming out in December so you wouldn't have to wait so long to see the finish. ETA-the production was delayed from the hurricanes last fall, it's set to come out next summer I think.
Cars is my favorite kids movie right now, and DaVinci Code rocked!

I read part of the book before seeing the movie, and am in process of finishing it now. I would say, read the book first. There is a lot of stuff in the movie you are going to miss if you haven't read the book. But, if you are not a huge detail person, and just want to be entertained, go see the movie any way. On the other hand, there will probably be someone in the audience who has read the book, and will be talking through the whole thing any way, which is what happened to us. I think it will be great to watch on DVD because you can stop it, and talk about the little details when you can't in the theater.

I haven't seen any of those movies, but glad to see the reviews. :) I heard that Cars was wonderful.
I just saw The Devil Wears Prada. I hadn't read the book, but heard that it was much better, so now I picked up the paperback. I had no expectations of the movie (either way), but I really enjoyed it... although it was hard for me to think of the girl from the Princess Diaries as a leading lady. :) I guess I'm just too old. :)

Yes, I loved Cars too.....so cute!!
I haven't seen the other movies yet, but I saw Nacho Libre last night. To me it was hilarious. If you liked Napoleon Dynamite then you would like this one.
I haven't seen The Devil Wears Prada, but I'm reading it right now -- i love it so far!

I went backwards with Brown's books--Da Vinci first and then Angels and Demons and then Digital Fortress (were there just 3? Can't remember now.). Anyway, I liked DaVinci (the book) and have been meaning to read it again. I enjoyed A&D, too, but I don't know that I'd say DaVinci was worse than A&D. Go on and read it before you watch the movie, though. There are lots of details that you would definitely miss without having read the book.

Oh, I have been waiting so bad to see Nacho! I can't drag my hubby in there to see it, though! We also saw superman. It was great! Not a truly memorable film, but good family fun! The little kids in the theater were really enjoying it!

We saw You, Me & Dupree last night. We loved it, thought it was hilarious! Love Kate Hudson & Owen Wilson, not really a Matt Dillon fan but still a cute movie!

hmmm, I don't think I had even heard about You, Me & Dupree. I might have seen a trailer once, but that's about it.
I also know nothing about The Devil Wears Prada.
What are these movies about (with out spoiling it), and what are they rated?
