A plane that had just taken off from the Hillsboro Airshow lost power, slammed into a house, the house exploded, and at least two other houses caught fire.

No one saw the pilot eject. The first house is a total loss. It is not known how many people were in the houses, if any.

Please pray for everyone involved and their families. It's likely you'll be seeing this on the news tonight if you live in the U.S.

I live 1 - 1.5 miles away from where the airshow was taking place.

The pilot is presumed dead. Currently, no other people are missing (inhabitants of the houses)....and apparently, if the owners of the first house had gotten home just 20 minutes earlier, they would have been in the home when the plane crashed into it.

Here's the story (I think) http://www.kmtr.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=24FD8146-25C6-4001-9155-92CC64B2E442

Thank God no one was home in that first house!!!

Yes, it is thankful no one was in the first house.

I found out yesterday that I know the person whose house was destroyed. She is a technical writer, like me, and was at the portland garden show with another technical writer friend. They were late getting home from the show, and arrived back at her home 20 minutes after the crash.

She has lost everything but her dog and the clothes she was wearing. But she and her dog are still alive, and she's very thankful for that.

How scary. To be so close, to know the person who lost everything...a little too 'real' for comfort. She's in my prayers.

Rachel,

I've been watching Channel 8, keeping track (I'm 35 min outside of Troutdale) and the pics are so overwhelming. I can't imagine what the gal is going through. She seemed pretty 'ok' when they were doing interviews, but I think it's the shock of it all.

Those are HUGE houses in their neighborhood! I can't imagine how long it will take to get her life 'put back together'.

I hope they don't nix the air show... one accident doesn't make for shutting the whole thing down, I don't think. But, I don't live in the area either...

I saw it on the news. So horrible, but glad that the people were not home. We will pray for them and the pilot and his family, if he had one. Doesn't God work in mysterious ways?

I will say a prayer for the families who have lost their possessions, and a prayer for teh family of the pilot who died. Such a tragedy.
