Are you the type of person who is afraid to leave a message unanswered, even if there's no need for a reply?
Or can you just leave an email or a PM, knowing there is no need for another response?

I'm usually one of the first ones. I would much rather be the last one to write an email, than to wonder if they're worried that they offended me.

(I can't tell if any of that was written right!:embaresse If no-one responds I'll try to reword it :) )

lol, Charlene! I usually respond even if there's no need for a response. Like someone says "Thanks!" and I'll say "Thanks!" back.

I hate IMing for that very reason. I like being able to get up and walk away without worrying. With IM, you kind of have to say goodbye and end the conversation, LOL

i usually respond even unnecessarily, except when i am really busy or mad

It really depends I guess, but usually I am the last to write. Here is a question...If you get a birthday card in the mail do you call the person who sent it?

I don't reply to all my emails if I don't think it's necessary, but I always try and keep conversations going with friends (weeks later, usually). My basic rules are: If they ask a question or send me a link to go look at something or pay me a compliment, I'll respond. Other than that, you may or may not hear back from me.

Stacey, I don't make phone calls for birthday cards. But I do make sure I have *their* birthday so I can return the favor, and then add them on the Christmas card list too. Unless they send money in the card, then I write a thank-you note or call to say thank you.

i always call to say thank you for a birthday card. a lot of that is because i live 500 miles from my closest relatives (other than my MIL).

Oh good question - I don't respond to birthday cards and such - I just make sure that I return the gesture on their birthdays. There are some emails I just don't respond to because I kind of don't think there is a need to or because I know then I will get 10 more just "nothing" emails back and forth from this person (family member). It kind of depends who the person is that sent it to me or what the content was.....

Oh! I hear you on that! I finally told all my family at a big family dinner that I don't want their junk mail. I don't need another piece of chain mail, and that cartoon they think I need, well, it was probably sent to me a couple of other times by other people. They didn't like it, but my e-mail box has been chain mail free for a few months now!

BTW Chain mail is equally illegal whether sent via snail mail or e-mail. Don't do it!
(chain mail would be anything that "requires" you to forward the mail to other people to get a reward or to stop a curse or bad luck.) There! My soap box for the day is ended.

Yup, it opened just fine! I never would have thought to send it via blogger :) Thanks!!

Nora, I thought I had heard that, but it's good to be reminded of it.

I can't respond to every email. I'd never be able to leave the computer. I just have to make sure that I do respond if necessary... so paying attention to the little icons is a must for me! So I hope I don't offend any of you for not responding since you are all so good. :P
