My poor little 2 year old son broke his leg this afternoon. It's a spiral fracture near his ankle and he has a handsome full leg blue cast that he'll be wearing until Halloween. Anyone have any survival strategies? I'm freaked out, to say the least. And also- any good suggestions for a halloween costume that involves an ankle cast?:whatchuta :broken_he Not my best mom day today... i feel like a heel.:17:

I've never broken anything, nor have my kids (knock on wood). I can't imagine how hard that must be for your little guy! :(

My now 10 yr old DS broke his leg in about the same place when he was 2 also. He did it while we were on vacation at my in-laws...walking through the kitchen of all things...not running around (he was a wild child and he was just minding his own business being good). But...they adapt so well. I thought I'd go crazy because he really was an active kid and I thought there was no way he'd be able to get around with that thing. He had it from his toes all the way up his leg covering his whole thigh. It didn't slow my son down for a second. We still went to the playground. I was seriously scared he was going to break the other leg cuz he didn't stop for a second. LOL! The doctor told me that when they put the cast on. He said kids are resiliant and they bounce back better than adults do. He said we are the ones who feel bad, but the kids just go on. And that is exactly how it was. The only bad part was that my son did it over the summer and we could not go swimming so that was a bummer. And I got tired of getting "accidently" hit with the cast cuz it hurt more than a plain ol' leg. LOL!

Maybe he could be something with a cane....like a zombie with a cane or since it's blue some type of a candy. I can't think of a blue candy off hand. But I'm thinking as I type. :D

Awww, I'm sorry. I know what you are going thru, "I" broke my son's leg when he was a year and a half by falling going up a flight of stairs carrying him. Talk about guilt! And man did I think DSS was coming after me! Good thing I had more bruises and scratches than he did! LOL! He had a bright red cast too! It it true they are much more resiliant than adults and heal much faster (my DS only had to wear his cast for 2 1/2 weeks!) and you are hurting way more than him by now I'm sure.

I love the cane idea for a costume!

But you could always do Cookie Monster too since he's 2 I even have a costume that might fit him I bet since my DS was Cookie at around that age! ;) PM me and I'll be happy to send it along!

Oh my goodness! Poor little guy. I sure hope he is doing okay now, inspite of the cast. Keep us posted, and DH and I will pray for a speedy healing.
