Question about calendar templates

I have a friend who wants to make calendars using the calendar template in the boutique. She doesn't have photoshop, though, are there other programs that are compatible?

If she doesn't have Photoshop or PSP or a similar program she could always download one of the trial versions from the Adobe website just to do her calendars then she wouldn't have to spend the money on something she isn't planning on using again!
