The True Ghost Stories (http://www.thedigichick.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8800)thread got me thinking about wanting to read some scary books. I'm in the mood for a good scary book but don't know what to read!! You know...the ones about ghost hauntings (no exorcist type books please). I don't think I've read a book that has really scared me. Anyone have any suggestions???

Maybe "The Shining" by Stephen King. We have a classic story about that book in my family. Back in the early 80's, my dad was reading it in bed while listening to some kind of atmospheric new agey music. ( why????) At a very tense part of the book the
music sounded like a shout and my dad jumped so high, threw the book, and let out a girly squeal. Hilarious. It really is a great, freaky old book too.

I always wanted to read The Shining, but since I've seen the movie I wonder if it will be as intriguing to me? Another King book I'm interested in is... um... oh shoot! What's the name of that one where he is tied to the bed (or SHE is?) and out in the middle of no where?

I've read The Shining before, but it wasn't the same since I had already seen the movie before I read it.

Val, are you thinking of Misery??

No... not Misery.

Ok, I just looked it up. I thought it was Geralds Choice and I was *close*... it's Geralds Game. The husband handcuffs his wife to bed and dies somehow and she is stuck there and trapped.

Ooooo. I think I'll have to go read this now!

Gerald's Game is a good book. I will have to re-read that one!

I used to read a lot of horror/scary stuff. The only one that really ever freaked me out was "It" when I read that in high school... I think it was because of clowns. Yikes.

The story about the Shining made me laugh. :) I was listening to a short story by SK called "The Mist" (I think). Anyway, I had headphones on and it was the first book on tape I'd listened to. It had weird 3-D sound and I freaked out and jumped a mile because all of a sudden I heard a guy say something from behind me. Hahaha.
